LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

BeastNode - $4/month 512MB and $7/month 1GB OpenVZ VPS in Dallas and LA

BeastNodeMinecraft_Hosting_BeastNode_Performance_Server_Hosting_&_VPS_Hosting!_-_2014-07-14_06.32.53Justin, from BeastNode, has sent in two offers for LowEndBox readers. BeastNode tells me they started almost three years ago, I assume as a MineCraft host. They are currently expanding into the VPS market and these two offers are a result of that expansion. I haven’t got much information about BeastNode, other than that their host nodes have Intel Xeon CPUs, SSD drives, and a 1Gbps uplink. I have not been able to find any reviews yet for their VPS services as they are quite new in the VPS market, so please share your experiences with us in the comments or at LowEndTalk.com.

  1. Just dropping in to leave a review. Used them previously so thought I could help!

We’ve got a 1GB VPS in their (now unavailable) Amsterdam location. Running a simple name server and has been very reliable for the last two months. Can’t really comment on how well it holds up under load as DNS hardly stresses the connection or machine but updating and installing package updates from a US mirror was very quick (8-9MB/s). Pings to most places in Europe are sub 50ms.

So far very happy with them! The only let down (especially for us and our DNS servers) is the lack of IPv6 support, but other than that it’s been a pleasure working with them! Can’t really comment on support because we haven’t had to deal with them (which is a good thing) but they responded to our request for rDNS in under an hour!

Can’t comment on US locations but would recommend their Amsterdam location!

I am thinking about hosting a VPS with them. Just want to know, how is their support?

      July 15, 2014 @ 2:44 pm | Reply
      • Support (so far) seems great

Had 2 tickets, one critical, one me being an idiot (it happens ;)) , both resolved within an hour, between 3 and 5am CST

Doesn’t appear to be a one person show, maybe one per shift.

        • We have several on staff for different support areas, but I am happy your issues were resolved quickly.

    • Thank you, XeonCore! You’re lucky you get the Amsterdam location and we are working to re-stock that location :).

      • Indeed we are! Is IPv6 something we can expect soon-ish or is it something further down the roadmap? We currently use your Amsterdam location as our primary nameserver so IPv6 support would be really nice!

  2. Daniel:

Their website says the plans have 1Gbps uplink but LEB says 100Mbps.. which one is correct?

    July 16, 2014 @ 12:31 am | Reply
    • We have a “gentle” cap at 100Mbps, but if there is room to give you more then you’ll be able to achieve greater speeds.

  3. so far:
Setup – A bit shaky (had 2 issues)
Support – Spot on. Said 2 issues were resolved within 1 hr, being around 2am CST
    Network – Great
    VPS stability – Great

Of course, it’s only been a few hours, here’s hoping they can keep this level of stability :)

    • Hi Tom,
I’m glad your issues were resolved in a quick manner. Enjoy the VPS!

Will this same offer be available in the new location?

      July 17, 2014 @ 12:45 am | Reply
      • Indeed it will! The new location will be Dallas, but we’re waiting for our hardware to finish being set up.

        • Sounds interesting! Will be good to see someone else in the Dallas area that will be able to compete with the prices that BudgetVM offer. What’s the carrier mix like? What sort of cross-location ping’s can we expect?

Been testing this out for the last couple days and everything has been going pretty well. Was initially a customer through their MineCraft hosting.

Setup: Fairly easy process. Everything required was provided once checkout was complete. OpenVZ panel was easy to use and their guides through the KB helped out.
Network: Have not had any issues yet and seems to be going smooth, so far. Have yet to put it under a heavy load. So may be too early to tell.
Support: Support was handled quickly. Had a few questions and they were handled by a few different people. So it looks like they have multiple people running support.

Overall really glad with their service and would recommend to other.

After a few months with these guys, I have to warn people to just stay the hell away if you actually rely on professional, reliable service. They are nothing (and I do mean nothing) but a joke.

Within the first week, problems occurred requiring people to change IP addresses, because “the datacenter” gave them the wrong IP’s

Twice now (since July), they’ve forced migrations on people, closing down “datacenter” after “Datacenter”, migrating them into one big cluster of a mess.

Adding to this, hours upon hours of downtime with these individuals just not paying any attention to the nodes themselves.

Even more fun? these individuals accusing their customers of a ‘DDOS attack’ for SNMP monitoring of servers, causing yet MORE downtime for their customers.

Like I said, if you’re after professional services, look elsewhere. Really, far away from beastnode. This is clearly just a kid trying to raise a few extra bucks while in school
