Glad to see UMax on here for Black Friday..

Bought a VPS with them back a few months back – fantastic service and I couldn’t recommend them more.

Tempted to grab a secondary KVM VPS here though. Wish the wife didn’t go spend $1500 this morning…

Just something that made me curious: if you’re based in the US, and host there, why does the website give the option of English or Chinese?

    • James Oakley:

Actually, whilst I’m still curious, it no longer affects me signing up. I was looking for KVM on the east coast (or Western Europe) and when I went to the checkout just now I discovered you’ve only got items in NJ. Shame, because the offer’s great. :-(

      • Hi James,

We have a Los Angeles datacenter location.

Naturally, any VPS provider who has a presence in Los Angeles will have a good percentage of customers from China due to the demand for this location there.

That said – in order to make our website easier to navigate for our customers from China, we have a Chinese version of our site available too :)

Thanks for signing up and welcome.

      • James Oakley:

        @Eduardo

Having ordered one of their KVM and set this up, the answer is: Ubuntu 18.04 is not available under any of the SolusVM templates you’re offered, and if you go to SolusVM there are no CD ISOs available to mount. So I opened a ticket, and support mounted the 18.04 ISO for me once I supplied them with a URL for the image I wanted. I was then able to install Ubuntu 18.04 over VNC with no problem.

I need to change my hosting company ASAP. I run a small open source project and we have a support forum that has about 8000 members. there are 80K file attachments PHPBB forum, so all of the attachments are in a single folder. I mention this because of the hidden limits on the “unlimited” plans, ran into an issue because of it.

The website and forum currently is on a 4 vCPU KVM VPS with 4Gig ram 100gig storage and 10Tb bandwidth. I am very let down by the overall performance. and running LAMP on Ubuntu 16.04 hosting the site and forum it is not as fast as I would have thought it to be. I do not think that I could install Unity desktop on the machine and RDP into it. the performance would be really bad. so with that information.

I am interested in the 6GB KVM VPS if that is the highest that is available at these kinds of prices. I can pay 120 a year currently are there any upgrades that can be done? can I get more vCPU’s? more ram? HDD space would be fine where it is as well as the bandwidth. The software develope has 400+ plugins and I would like to create a plugin repository so the software could connect to the server and brows the available plugins. This would of course add additional load. I want to make sure that the system runs smooth for the users.

I am currently in a debockle with my current host. my bill was due. went to pay it and I could not. I submitted a ticket about the problem. and the ticket shows that it is still being worked on. has been like that for 2 weeks… then last night they suspend my service for non payment. I can’t pay it it will not let me. I provided screen shots of the problem. all sorts of things they simply will not turn my service back on. I did locate a different way to pay the bill from their website.. and I paid the bill. it took my money. but it still shows the bill as unpaid and my account is still suspended. they are no longer answering my emails to them I am extremely frustrated. It has been 24 hours now my site has been down when it should have never been turned off in the first place.

From the number of people asking questions and posting only good things thus far, I am very interested. I am budgeted for that 120. I would like to use all of it and get the most I can get.

Let me know if anything can be done..

    Thanks again
    Kevin

Any chance to move to LEMP stack?

      November 25, 2018 @ 11:14 am | Reply
      • It doesn’t really matter at this point. I am really not for a host shutting down my service due to a bug on their side that was reported 2 weeks earlier. and then ignoring my requests to turn it back on. having a 21 hour service interruption with the cause being ignorance/stupidity != a good host.

there was an issue with my VPS being so horribly sluggish 2 months ago and i reported an issue for this and and also reported having disk timeouts. I was told that because my CPU use would occasionally spike to 60% (occasionally = 2-3 times a day) that is what was causing the disk timeouts and the server being slow. and then they dismissed it.. I explained to them that a disk timeout stems from the hypervisor and not the KVM VPS and that it can end up causing a cascading failure of all of the VM’s on the node if corruption happens to the VPS’s OS and the OS goes into a rebuild. this is going to cause massive disk io when there is already a timeout problem.. triggering another VPS on the node to possibly experience the same thing and also go into a repair.. and so on and so forth.. They responded back with my network connection speeds being great and that they can’t find a problem. (I couldn’t even attempt to guess at that answer) now fast forward 30 days.. guess what happened?? node dropped. when it came back up I started to do some digging. and I found that someone was hammering my VPS looking for a way in.. I reported this to them and as it turns out every single VPS was experiencing this as well as the hypervisor on the node. (HMM ya think that can cause slugging behavior and excessive disk io?). the thing is if they had listened and taken 30 minutes to investigate instead of passing off some complete unrelated response and excuses 30 days prior the node dropping would have never taken place. So that was strike 1

this latest thing with the billing issue is strike 2.. There will not be a strike 3

CPU on the OpenVZ instance doesn’t match the Xeon E3
    Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz

It’s a much more outdated CPU model, which isn’t a huge issue.
However, the bigger bottleneck seems to be I/O. fio with random read is getting between 10 to 20 iops with 4k block size.

  33. We have two instances from Umax. One is 1GB and another is 6GB LEB VPS instance that we purchased months ago. We bought these VPS’s to run a rather simple NodeJS script. We were worried that the 1GB might suffer in performance so We went overkill with the specs on the 6GB to ENSURE that it would never have an issue since this script performance is crucial to run without any problems or lag. At first both instances were great, fast, no issues at all. After about a month we noticed issues with it starting to lag more and more and the response from our script was being affected. After months later we cant get the script to run without getting “Kill”ed constantly. Their server is clearly our of physical resources to perform even the most minute calculations. Our RAM and CPU usage is far under the purchased amount but we still get kernel panics.

We have submitted a ticket and are awaiting a response. Hopefully, this is just an issue with this particular node and not a widespread issue and can be easily resolved.

This place is so over sold it’s crippling. I had a VPS with them for 3 months that had I/O wait between 40% to 85% most of the time for under 1 MBps read. Things just crashed endlessly and databases ended up corrupt. Then they would turn it off for ‘high load’ (or the host node would just die from the load after it was left to run wild for days) when the load was caused by disk exhaustion and wasn’t my cause. Granted complaining got it fixed it for a few days until they either turned abusers back on or added new clients to the box and down the rabbit hole it went again. I gave up and went elsewhere. Pay a little more and get something that’s less frustrating.

Gentlemen, take a chill pill :-)! Everyone seem to have an automatic-reaction to complain in public the moment something is not working for 1 minute. The proper way is to contact tech support, and allow them the opportunity to fix with the understanding/expectation they are being hammered with tickets/questions.

It was a USA holiday and the busiest shopping day/week of the year. Do you know how much busy it is for any support tech or admin staff at any company right now? I work in tech support for a managed service provider, and personally have gone through it. Trust me, you guys who don’t know what Im talking about don’t have the slightest idea. It sucks if you hate your job and it still sucks even if you love your job because of how exhausting it can be when you are used to a certain level of work but have to execute at 100 times more levels. On my day job, I don’t even take my lunch breaks due to how busy it is :)

For the record I am just a happy customer with Umaxhosting. My services are performing fine, but if I ever need to submit a ticket I would be more than willing and prepared to wait a while for a response, especially during this busy time of the year (Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Cyber Week)

  38. I ordered the 6G machine on November 25th, on December 5th I cancelled it.

In that span of time the server went down 7 times totalling almost 20 hours, the underlying host OOM’d Support was quite slow getting back to me each time, with issues like this it is imperetive that support responds right away.

I do this for a living, if support was better, ie.. quicker to respond I would not be posting a comment like this, as I understand crap happens… however, in this industry, #1 criteria is the level of support provided, and how quick they are to act… especially when there is an issue… #2 quality of the machines.

Neither of these are up to snuff as far as I am concerned, and will not be able to recommend anyone who’s seriously considering hosting with them.

TBH… it was a waste of my $40

    Terrible servers, and support.
Sorry, but I am not sure how you sell even one of these. Mine started up 11/25 and was cancelled on 12/3
During that span the server went down 7 times totalling 20 hours, and only excuse was “OOM on the host”

I agree, these guys are CHEATS! They should be banned from LEB, as they take your money and then their servers do not function to be used!

Been asking for a refund for weeks, please address ticket #679345
I filed to cancel the VM within 24 hours after seeing poor I/O performance.

Can you please handle my refund request?

I purcahased this $7 special deal vps from umaxhosting. the first (NY) vps was very slow, and I could hadly make any us of it. They changed the location of another one (LA), which turns out to be much worse than the first. I cannot even use this one! After several contacts with these guys, and a request for a full refund, as the product cannot be used, I am being ignored. Regardless of the price and their “terms” for refunds, these cheating companies think that they can rip people off buy taking their money for a service, and then give them complete rubbish, and steal our money! These companies should be banned from LEB. I want a full refund

  42. I recommend this provider. I host at their cheapest offer. But has several downtime in a week. Will observe more.

I agree with the previous comments, the price is amazing but the service is not great at all …
I took bunch of VPS with them to run my masternodes and of course the service is killed every couple seconds.
I am really disapointed and will ask for a refund for all my VPS.

Indeed. Purchased the 2Gb OVZ to find it is rebooted every few days (or worse, every few hours).

Now I cancelled all my VPSs (I took for more than $100) and still have not heard anything from them about refund, they just closed my ticket. Band of crooks !

VM reboots unexpectedly every few days (2G OVZ). Will wait for support ticket to get answered and I will add here the result, but I’m already unhappy since it’s already three or four unexpected reboots in less than three weeks, since I’ve bought the service.

Stay away. Like others have said, these nodes are completely oversold. VPS was zombie on creation, couldn’t even connect through serial. Took multiple boot attempts, and then it was creeping along just to do an apt update. Then VPS randomly was shutdown same day. Attempting refund after only 12 hours, clearly a waste of money.

Like others have said if you are buying VPS for your website, STAY AWAY from OpenVZ offers of umaxhosting. Without any account on VPS, the CPU load will stay above 1.00 all the time.
    IO also seems very slow.

    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 19.1677 s, 56.0 MB/s
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 8.62859 s, 124 MB/s
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 12.0948 s, 88.8 MB/s

Buy these VPS only for backup.

Worst service I ever had… like people said above STAY AWAY from their OpenVZ. I’m not sure about KVM, but on OpenVZ that’s nightmare and support just send you come-offs.

Submitted a ticket almost 4 months ago shortly after signing up for their service. Haven’t had a single stable day of service since I signed up. They tried to migrate it to a different node but has the exact same issues. Their support is incompetent and their admin continuously ignores my case. They are impossible to get a hold of over email and they only have 1 person on their support staff who cant even speak proper english. Their phone # they advertise on their website goes straight to a voicemail message that sounds like someone put their phone up to a PC speaker playing a crappy voice-to-text message. When asked for a refund they started to ignore my tickets.

You will not ever get stable service or competent support from this company no matter how hard you try.
Avoid them like they plague. They are not worth the trouble.
