BuzzServers - $3 256MB VPS

Update Dec 2009: Hostname has not been resolving since 28 Nov 2009. I am now marking this as DEAD.

BuzzServers Let’s see how low can the price go. Via this WHT offer. Buzz Servers has now introduced “The World’s First $3/Month VPS”. Yup you read it right — $3/month. $0.50 to cover the PayPal or credit card gateway fee. $1 to cover the IP address allocated to you, and $1.50 for your memory + disk storage space + data bandwidth. It lets you pay monthly as well, and you get:

  • 256MB memory
  • 15GB storage
  • 75GB/month data transfer
  • CentOS 5 only

All the best with Buzz Servers and I am not surprised that they are using it to probably lure users to upgrade later (although you can do heaps of stuff with the spec above, unless the CPU is badly throttled). The servers are either in Dallas TX or San Jose CA. Too bad only CentOS 5.3 is offered.

Tried to order but their anti-fraud system checks not my real IP but the IP of my computer in my LAN which is of course like 192.168.x.x and of course I get an error.

  2. @Eugene,

I do not think the IP checking checks your internal LAN IP but the end point of your WAN connection. There are some countries that probably would raise flags (i.e. countries other than the U.S. of A.) but I guess their support people can help?

  9. Just a quick update..

“Graxis Inc is pleased to announce the successful acquisition of Buzzservers Limited.”

Apparently HyperVM will be swapped out for another panel as VPS’s are moved over. Kinda wait ‘n’ see as to how this affects things generally.

According to a post on WHT they are migrating to the FluidVM control panel and also at the same
time they are changing the IP addresses of all their customers which will involve some downtime (a few minutes.)
but according to one of the admins the old IP addresses will be around for 7 days.
I’m a little worried that I can no longer login to the Clients section of their website, I hope the new company wont actually decide to discontinue all the 3$ accounts and boot everyone off.

  11. It could be that the $3 deal was to push their client
numbers over a certain threshold to make the sale sweeter.

For certain reasons (currency/fees/lock-in) i paid for 1 year.
It’s unlikely they will renege on current purchases, but
moving clients to “equivalent plans” may (or may not) see
the renewal costs change. Paying monthly is generally lower
risk, but that’s the trade-off than perhaps locking in at
cheaper price for a longer time. (betting that the company
doesn’t shut up shop or compromise service badly)

Like they say, you win some, and you lose some.

No migration seem to take place like they claimed.. my vps is still up with the same IP and no emails
about the new control panel.. not like it matters for 3$ i can live without a control panel.

  13. Good to try out HyperVM in the meantime. They’ve announced a new timeline on migration in the latest newsletter..

“We are working closely together with the development team of FluidVM and our own VPS specialists to prepare a migration plan with the amount of downtime kept to a bare minimum, this plan is expected to be complete in mid-august after which we will start the migration process in the first 2 weeks of september.”

Hosting is still solid. Some concern about the excessive overdue charges if you’re using monthly payments. This seems to be a bit of a scam in the industry, so buyer beware as usual.

  14. Has anyone recieved notification of Buzzserver clients being merged with Zabogo? I didn’t, but just read this on Zabogo’s site..

    “BuzzServers is now Zabogo.
After Graxis, Inc. took over BuzzServers, Ltd. it has existed separately from the Graxis, Inc family of companies, in an effort to keep the number of brands to a minimum the Management of Graxis, Inc. decided to merge BuzzServers into Zabogo as of September 11th.”

Any ex-Buzz/Zabogo VPS users on here still?

  15. Ah crapola. Just been informed that all my current data was lost in the handover. Like wasn’t that meant to have happened back in July? (see timeline above)
Seems i will have to up my skills to now include transactional VPS mirroring in future. :O|

Meanwhile, Buzzservers.com website announces “returning in November”.
Yeah, right. I’d suggest reading the following thread for some of the more revealing industry background on that.

  16. @Dredd — wow. Someone needs to register WebHostingOpera.com to record all those industry dirty laundries. Didn’t know that the ex-owner sold VPSWOW as well (which was also featured here).

  17. Nice idea :)

Thou, with that particular domain you’d likely get too many ppl asking where the Opera Unite download page is at.

I think the “take money, close down, re-open under new name” hosting fly-by-niters is morphing into a company (“friends”) exchange, which come off as fluid arrangements (confidential non-taxable), yet give the appearance of financial success (“we’ve been bought out by the big boys yay!”), and also able to shake off the small clients (“Oh well that was fun, next?”) who don’t protest too much.. or delete them if they do (as in my case – DOH!)

    It’s Fly-By-Niters 2.0

  18. For anyone chasing the title, Buzzservers will be back in November with “new services”, and with a name like “Buzz ~ Servers” we can guess that’ll mean hosting yeh ;O)

    (soap opera continued..)

Have finally been migrated to Zabogo.net (aka Sharedlayer) and compensated with a plan upgrade for my lost data. Hard to say if it’s a fair renumeration unless the hosting is stable for at least 6 months total. (Buzzservers being an inapropriate title at this point)

But the story’s not over?? Nope. There’s some weird bugs with the billing system. Next post/topic for more on this i think. ^^
