Contabo announced on June 16, 2026, that it has reached a significant milestone by hosting 500,000 virtual private servers (VPS). The Munich-based company framed this achievement as a thank-you to its customers. However, the timing of this announcement is notable, as it coincides with price increases initiated by competitors such as Scaleway, Hetzner, and OVH from April to June 2026.
So what do we, the LowEnd community, think about Contabo?
Let’s take a look at ServerVerify data.
There’s 17 reviews and 49 benchmarks on file. Overall, the community rates them 3.3/5.

“Got a vps there and it was decent few months back. I remember being on a stable node in NJ. but price is too high for me to keep so i left after 6 months”

“Contabo Singapore, too bad, great name, bad infrastructure, lack of network specialist, lack of support and hard to listen to customers wanted. Singapore has big exchange such as Equinix and GlobalPort,”
“Would I recommend Contabo? If you need an Indian server at dirt-cheap pricing and can deal with the occasional hiccups, sure. The bandwidth allocation is one of the best I’ve seen at this price. But if reliability, smooth setup, and quick support are your priorities, you might want to think twice. In short, Contabo feels like one of those budget airlines—you get where you need to go, but the journey? Well, that’s another story.”

“I asked for the refund and they denied the refund stating that i signed up as a Business and they don’t offer refund to Business users as per their policy https://help.contabo.com/en/support/solutions/articles/103000285149-can-i-get-a-refund- although you can see there is no mention of anything like this.”
never used them, because i read LET threads.
St. Louis happens to be one of their locations I have a Contabo VPS (since a few years) and in my books it always was under “yuck!”.
S0…Rather Mixed
The real lesson here is to always read reviews on LowEndTalk and ServerVerify before you go shopping. Contabo offers attractive prices, but with hosting, it’s easy to promise and hard to deliver. If you shop only on price…buyer beware!

Contabo went downhill since the end of 2025. My VPS connection would be up and down randomly. The worst of this lasted for around 24 hours. I validated it from three different hosts in different countries as well as the UptimeRobot service. Support moved my node but it started again in February.
I contacted support to ask if we could get to the bottom of it and their response was that they couldn’t see any issues and that was that.
I eventually stumbled on a Reddit thread whilst searching for similar issues. This thread had people who were also Contabo customers and were having issues with Contabo too. It was at that point I decided that my years of being a Contabo customer were over and I cancelled my service, ending March 7.
