If you want a low-end dedi…well, what could be more low-end than a Raspberry Pi?
These little card-based systems have come a long way from their start. The current RPi 4 boasts a quad-core 64-bit processor, up to 8GB of RAM, dual-monitor 4K resolution, and gig-E (with enough horsepower to drive it as full speed).
Is an R Pi a better hosting platform than a VPS? A better question is how it compares to other rock-bottom-cheap dedis. Perhaps the nearest competitor is the 5-EUR-a-month Kimsufi KS-1. Unfortunately, those are very hard to find in stock, and if you hunt hard enough, your reward is an Atom N2800 and a hard drive with 1.3 million hours of power-on.
Yes, an RPi can be quite competitive if you keep perspective – plus as a dedicated server, you can run the CPU at 100% 24×7 if you choose. Your provider won’t care – these things are using ARM chips so power burn is very low.
So perhaps you want to try one…well, now’s the time! RPI Servers (run by LowEndTalk veteran @DataIdeas-Josh) is running a sale.
That RPi 4 I mentioned (with a 4GB) config is usually $7.50/month. You can get it for $3.14 for the first month (to celebrate Pi Day!) between now and April 6.
Other price points:
- Micro Pi Zero: $2.50/month! I believe this is the cheapest dedi on the Internet.
- Pi 3B+: $5/month!
And of course they have bigger Pi 4s available as well. Get in on the deal here.

Is this better than Bluehost?
Isn’t everything? 😀
Touche. Any details? Wondering if it’s harder to rank for SEO on shared hosting, I’m guessing that’s what I have. The basic version for WordPress.
Using shared hosting should not affect SEO as long as loads times are normal and you have HTTPS. Many top sites use Cloudflare, which shares the IP amongst many domains.
