HostFolks – $4.64 256MB OpenVZ VPS in Multiple Locations

It’s been almost two years since hostfolks.com were featured on LEB. According to James at Hostfolks, they have since then grown to seven locations in both US and Europe. France is also on the way but currently there’s no ETA when the first node will be ready.

At the time of writing, they are offering a 20% discount on WHT but James is offering a slight improvement on this offer for our LEB readers, with the promocode: LEB you will get 22% discount on the Economy package or above. You could get double RAM or Disk instead of the discount, make a note when ordering what you want doubled.

Just wondering why do you use HyperVM and solus? Why not stick with one or the other. Makes updating much easier IMO.

    • We are moving away from HyperVM, older locations still have HyperVM available but all new nodes/locations will be Solus in future.

I’ve completely loved my VPS there, and used to get MONTHS of uptime.

As for HyperVM and Solus, both are superior, even though I enjoyed having HyperVM with my VPS more than other Solus that I’ve got everywhere, I was happier with HyperVM than Solus.

Ordered a 1Gbit VPS in NL with CentOS 6 32bit, instead got a 100Mbit VPS in NL with CentOS 6 64bit.
after convincing them what I got was indeed 100Mbit and not 1Gbit, I asked them to change my service to what I actually paid for, and they told me they don’t even have such nodes available.
at least they quickly canceled and refunded me fully.

  9. Ordered Amsterdam 1 week ago until now is fine and faster for me uptime so far is good 100%..no need 1GBPS becouse for website only it’s enough ..i don’t care about 1gbps if i fill still fast and the point is important the server uptime record it’s good and fast..for what 1GBps if server still got downtime like me before use 1gbps at DOtVps always got down everyday. 1Gbps this indicated user will be use for leech, remote upload, DDOS or related.. this will effect to other client and effect to the server performance … suggest for hosting service if have 1gbps server just put 100Mbit in to the official site.

      • Depending on the location you would have been provided with either HyperVM or SolusVM to manage any VPS purchased from us. Also, instant setup is not advertised, it’s usually done very quickly in under one hour but depending on checks etc it can take longer.

Just signed up for the VPS #2 package (512MB/50GB/2000GB) hosted in NL for $9.98. Seemed like a good deal but after 3 days, my service is still not available. It just says “Pending”. My support ticket has gone unanswered for 48 hours… I guess it’s around the Christmas holidays, so I can understand the delay, but they should at least reply to the ticket with an ETA…

I couldn’t find a phone number to call on their website.

My VPS has been unstable for a few weeks now. Tried to reinstall the OS and make a few other changes, but ran into issues instead. I’ve submitted a ticket to ask for help but have not received any response to my latest question. It’s a real shame because this is the only provider I know of with a “low end” Houston based VPS offer – the routing from my location to Houston is much better than Dallas, so I’d hate to have to go back to a Dallas VPS instead, but it’s certainly looking that way.

Dead pool material? I hope not. :(

Well they eventually provisioned my order, but then I couldn’t SSH or console into the box because it said “Container is not ready.” I opened a ticket for that and they simply rebooted the VM, which didn’t resolve the problem. On top of that, they silently provisioned the box in Germany rather than Netherlands, and only confirmed that when I asked them about it in the ticket, saying that they were “sold out” in NL. Well, I asked for a refund after that. They did issue the refund very quickly, but based on my experience, I can’t recommend Hostfolks.
