It has not been a good week to be a Path.net customer.
Tuesday, January 21
Path.net’s Tokyo Point of Presence (POP) went offline. According to their status page:
We are currently investigating an issue with our Tokyo Point of Presence, we’ve already reached out to an on-site technician and will update as we learn more.
Thursday, January 23
The Miami POP went offline on this day.
We are currently investigating an outage with our Miami point of presence.
and then
We have contact with a Tier 2 technician to resolve this issue. We will update this post as we learn more.
Tuesday, January 28
Both Phoenix and Singapore dropped offline.
We are currently investigating an outage with our Phoenix PoP.
We are currently investigating an outage with our Singapore point of presence.
Back at Miami, there was an update:
Working together with various Equinix technicians we’ve found the issue, we are awaiting the electrician on site to return to work and Miami will be returned to full capacity. We will be bringing on additional capacity soon to mitigate further issues with the Miami location.
Wednesday, January 29
In Tokyo, things are confused:
The datacenter has been rejecting the shipments, we’ve contacted them multiple times confirming its a legitimate package and it has been escalated to our account manager, awaiting further instructions from them.
And no update in Miami:
Update – Awaiting implementation progress from Equinix.
Current Status
Here is the latest update for each outage:
- Miami: “Awaiting implementation progress from Equinix.” (Jan 29)
- Phoenix: “We are continuing to investigate this issue.” (Jan 30)
- Singapore: “We are currently investigating an outage with our Singapore point of presence.” (Jan 28)
- Tokyo: The “rejecting the shipments” message (Jan 29)
So What To Make Of This?
It seems pretty bizarre that four POPs would have near-simultaneous issues. In two different DCs, they are still in the “investigating” stage.
How can a company that claims to have “around the clock personalized support from experienced staff members” be still investigating nearly three days later (in the case of Singapore) what the issue is?
There are all sorts of rumors being discussed on LowEndTalk. According to reports, the Madrid POP is also down.
Either Path.net just having a horrible run of luck, or there is more to the story. But what?

We don’t know the full story for sure, but it’s pretty obvious to me that they have been terminated by the datacenters, so the “investigation” is just them finding a different datacenter to host their servers.
