      Sigh, reading isn’t hard.

      Right from the ToS:

-Torrent files and trackers that facilitate the download of any materials included in this list.
      […]
Neosurge Web Solutions strictly prohibits the running of IRCd, eggdrop, or other IRC related scripts, programs, or bots from shared hosting, reseller, and VPS accounts. In other words, the usual case of ISP’s based in DMCAland:

You could only torrent the homemade intimate moments of you with your (ex)friend, containing a non-trademarked / patented sex position, and don’t talk with your friends about it over IRC, but over MSN/Skype instead, because the FBI/CIA-officers want to fap on the captured talk.

The feedback on the August listing seems very mixed to me – quite a few comments about unanswered tickets and downtime. It does appear they made efforts to put things right after some delays.

Have you renewed your SSL cert?

This, and the fact that you emailed my initial password, were the most worrying points about signing up for NeoSurge service.

From what I recall, my VPS is in the Chicago datacenter: it seems like the San Jose one had big issues, but I haven’t had any problems at all.

      Ordered a VPS too.
The email with my initial password scared me a bit and that your SSL certificate should be renewed since mid-april.

I chose chicago, chicago is listed in my VPS details but the routing and displayed host says san jose?!
      Already wrote a ticket.

Hey, just to clarify, I had signed on with the first promotion, so I’m not sure if things changed.

I’m also not sure if there’s some kind of masking going on, where both datacentres identify as being in the same location. As long as I’m not suffering from outages I really don’t mind. I have seen 0 downtime, and my system also reports 0 downtime, so I’m very happy. (I bought it back in late august)

        Regarding performance:

        wget -O /dev/null cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test lists 26mb/s

updating packages from http://mirror.steadfast.net (which is located in chicago, thats why i’ve chosen it)
        Fetched 43.4 MB in 47s (910 kB/s)

updating packages with apt seems to be a magnitude slower than my usual edis VPS in switzerland but still ok. planning to use it as an VPN host :)

I don’t quite understand why they do not provide 32bit OS templates.

As for 128MB of RAM, using 64bit OS is a bad idea.

I order two: one in Chicago and the other in San Jose.

When looking at the activation email (with the server/CP details), the IP addresses for both look to be in the same pool (their sequential). In the CP it shows that the Chicago VPS I ordered is on ca01svr01, and the San Jose one is on ca01svr02.

Also in the CP it states: Xen PV – no HVM?

Looking at the OS install options, any chance for Arch Linux or FreeBSD to be made available?

I bought this yearly, they did provide it (Lowendbox exclusive – Lowendbox Exclusive Chicago). Only one little problem. The VPS doesn’t have an internet connection. Makes this kinda useless…
I can get to the box via the control panel, but since their email stated SSH I can assume it is supposed to have an internet connetion..

Made a ticket, no response in the past 10 hours (yes, I know it is sunday).
So far I can’t recommend this host.

Requested my money back via Paypal. I was refused: “there was a problem with the node that the customer is on. We’ve corrected the issue and would like to offer two free months of services in order to rectify the situation.” and thee claim was closed.
So now I’m not using my XEN with them anymore, but I refuse to just cancel it. Instead its running some background stuff, just for nobody …
Even now there is still a ticket open since 10 augustus of this year.

  22. I got one of these servers a few days ago and was delighted at how easy it was to get a little Java web project up and running on it. I thought the performance of the server seemed pretty good (SSH terminal response, application startup / response) compared to other cheap VPSes I’ve rented.

The server was dead this morning, control panel said “Offline”. They responded to email / ticket in less than 3 hours, which is OK by me, considering the price.

Their response is “This is a known issue, the node you’re on is experiencing problems and we are working to resolve them.”

This is the only part that troubles me: Neosurge has a twitter account where ‘known issues’ could be updated – the newest status is over a year old. They have a server status page on their own domain which says “No Servers are currently being monitored”.

Posting “known issues” on your twitter feed or your status page would be nice.
