Prometeus – €11.25/Year 128MB KVM VPS in Italy

IperWeb.COM, a brand of Prometeus.com

Salvatore emailed us an exclusive offer on the occasion of their 15th anniversary this month  for LEB readers. Use coupon code 15Y15LEB to get 25% recurring discount on all annual payments. This is even better than their current LET Offer.

  • 256GB/month data transfer
  • 1 vCPU core

  • 1 x IPv4
  • /112 IPv6 (available on request)

Price: €15.00 OR $19.00 / every 03 months (quarterly) – Direct signup link here

Of course, paying annually, disqualifies the KVM5 plan from listing here as LEB-friendly (> $48/yr) but still the quarterly amount is well within the criteria.  One can use a mix of both LET and LEB offers to get amazing discounts for their preferred billing frequency. They accept Paypal as the only means of payment at the moment. Test IPs and test files are available on their LET Offer thread. You can also review the last LEB post for generally very positive reviews and feedback.

  2. Thanks guys for listing!

    I hope that the offers for our anniversary will be appreciated :-)

    Setup is manual, so you can wait up to a few hours, don’t worry your vps will be delivered asap.

    The KVM1 plan is almost near the end of the stock, at present no more stock is planned for the next few days.

    • Yea, the last 14 kvm1 were sold out in a flash. I think now we need to fill the current node at 60% with other plans and then we will deploy a new node were we can setup more KVM1.

        • there are plenty of KVM2 still available :-)

          We need to balance different plans on a node so that the overall permances will be good (or at least acceptable) even when it will be full…

          There are more hardware node to deploy so more KVM1 will be available in future…

    I already have 3 VPS with Prometeus, and this is a terrific offer. Really fast i/o and great support.
    It’s a very well known provider (a real registered company in business since 1997) and the own their full racks in the best datacenter of Italy with great connectivity to all Europe and Asia. They are not the usual cheap low end provider, but a major player entering the budget market with an impressive infrastructure: On the network side (…) two Extreme Networks X480-48t with 4 10G ports, four X450-24t with 2 10G ports. You can read more here: http://www.prometeus.net/sito/our_infrastructure

    They also are a LIR, so no problem with IPs and their overall quality is much above LEB standard. For me definitely the best offer in Europe in 2012. So if you are from Europe/Asia/Africa or just want a top-quality VPS in Europe you can’t go wrong with Prometus. My suggestion is to grab the bigger ones for 1 year, because I don’t think this introductory offers will last long. Their standard prices are much higher than this LEB deal.

    If someone needs more tests just ask.

      As for the adult contents they have to be legal both in copyright and content (we have zero tollerance).

      I think i’m not the only one here missing the 15Y15LEB coupon, maybe you should post the prices for yearly KVM2 and KVM5 after discount. Those are even better deal than the smaller KVM2. I guess the coupon is working also on KVM2, so we have 2 more good deals here:

      KVM2 (256M) 22.5€ / 28.5$ (annually)
      KVM5 (512M) 45€ / 57$ (annually)

    How can I imagine what 2 vcores are like? You write on your order page, that you use E5-2620 CPUs which have 6 real or 12 virtual cores. Now if every KVM5 produkt uses 2 of those virtual cores it would be a maximum of 6 customers on each node. With discount it would be like 30€ if everyone payed yearly, how can I imagine that?
    Can you give me further information on that point please?

    • Cpu is shared. Common experience is that well before the total CPU power of a server is used other resource will become scarce first, such as RAM and i/o disk.
      Only if you put together a lot of cpu crunching applications you are able to consume all the 12+12 cores of this kind of servers.

  25. Demand for the KVM1 plan has been terrific, we are planning to deploy some more nodes so stock should be guaranted for all plans.
    Just a note: a lot of user buy the KVM1 plan to try it out and then ask to upgrade to the KVM2 plan the next day. At present there is no inplace upgrade (it would require a lot of manual work on the LVM and libvirt settings). So, if you are interestet to a 256MB plan more than a 128 one, please buy the KVM2 plan and choose the semi-annual payment using the code 15Y15LEB, the 25% discount will be applied to the 6 somth period, so you will pay the same fee for your plan of choice.
    Hope you’ll appreciate this.

  28. Ordered KVM1 today. Nice responsive VPS.
    Came without OS, had to contact the staff for them to temporarily upgrade my RAM for CentOS 6 installation (as described in the e-mail they sent me). Within 12 minutes I received a response telling me it was done! Further request to downgrade my RAM took 3 minutes :)

    Had to manually configure the network+ settings through solusvm VNC. There are no tutorials in the knowledgebase so I assumed conventional configuration.

      Can you give me a link on how to set the network settings?

      Thank you!

      June 3, 2012 @ 9:17 pm | Reply
      • For CentOS:

        Create/modify /etc/resolv.conf adding the following content:

        nameserver 8.8.8.8
        nameserver 8.8.4.4

        These are Google’s public DNS servers.

        Then modify /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
        Contents:

        DEVICE="eth0"
        ONBOOT="yes"
        BOOTPROTO="none"
        ONPARENT="yes"
        IPADDR="123.45.67.89"
        NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
        GATEWAY="123.45.67.1"

        Replace 123.45.67.89 with your VPS IP.
        For gateway replace first 3 parts (octets) with your VPS IP leaving the last one as it is.

        June 3, 2012 @ 9:36 pm | Reply
        • IP address are assigned via dhcp, so you can also use
          DEVICE=”eth0″
          ONBOOT=”yes”
          BOOTPROTO=”dhcp”
          ONPARENT=”yes”

          June 3, 2012 @ 9:40 pm | Reply
        • Correction you probably don’t need ONPARENT=”yes”…but it won’t harm it.

          Don’t forget to restart the network service or alternatively reboot the VPS.

          However if you set the network during the install, the installer will detect the dhcp and set everithing. I don’t know why the minimal don’t set the network by default (you need to click on the lower left button…).

          Thank you very much Zorro, I was struggling with it for about 3 hours. It’s my first VPS so it takes a while to figure things out, couldn’t have done it without you :D

          Best regards

      • For the IPv6 configuration, if you didn’t get one automatically in the order, just modify the /etc/network/interfaces :

        # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
        # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

        # The loopback network interface
        auto lo
        iface lo inet loopback

        # The primary network interface
        #allow-hotplug eth0
        auto eth0
        iface eth0 inet static
        	address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
        	netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
        	gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

        #IPv6 configuration
        iface eth0 inet6 static
        	#Use one line bellow if you're using Ubuntu, remove it if you're on Debian
        	pre-up modprobe ipv6
        	address 2a00:dcc0:eda:x:x:x:x:x/64
        	netmask 64
        	gateway 2a00:dcc0:eda:x::1

      You know that the Edis speedtest are capped at 100Mbit?
      Cachefly should be 1Gbit. VZ1 gives around 45MB/s but haven’t tested yet from KVM1

      June 3, 2012 @ 9:39 pm | Reply
      • Freek:

        KVM1 is indeed slower than VZ1. Looks like KVM1 is on a shared 100Mbit line whereas VZ1 is on shared 1Gbit.

        June 4, 2012 @ 2:35 pm | Reply
        • All nodes share 1G port… the reduced speed is due to some dynamic limit that the kernel set under some amount of ram. If you like it to fly please edit /etc/sysctl.conf and add at the bottom:
          net.core.rmem_max=16777216
          net.core.wmem_max=16777216
          net.ipv4.tcp_rmem=4096 87380 16777216
          net.ipv4.tcp_wmem=4096 65536 16777216

          then run:
          sysctl -p

          then run again your test and report back here :-)

          OpenVZ :

          104,857,600 54.9M/s   in 1.8s

          KVM :

          104,857,600 37.7M/s   in 2.7s

          Not bad at all !
          Although KVM is a tad slower than the OVZ.

          I tried the /etc/sysctl.conf changes and they didn’t seem to really affect anything. :S

          Very happy with both the VPS, btw. :)

    @prometeus let us know when you will have new KVM node ready. Not stocks on existing one but new, as some people here would be most likely interested to have another KVM vps spreaded among different nodes.
    btw. good work!

    June 5, 2012 @ 3:41 am | Reply
    • BIZ vps are subject to some software restriction (to limit troubles on the nodes), the vps density on each node is more controlled and two IPv4 are assigned to the vps.

    ALl plans now out of stock, congratulations :). I saw KVM1’s available a day or two ago and was surprised they lasted that long. I resisted buying one at that time because I already have too many VPS in other places. Today I looked again and they were gone, so I escaped temptation. :)

        I thought I checked all 3, though maybe I got confused by the javascript selector gadget. Anyway there are now a few kvm2’s and kvm5’s but kvm1 is still out of stock. As long as it stays out of stock I am safe ;). I guess there won’t be any more? It was nice while it lasted.

        Prometeus, what payment methods do you accept? Do you think you might have some low-end openvz plans soon?

    I’d like STATIC method rather than DHCP, so I have configured as static IP, then it works!
    rDNS is manually set up by them, IPv6 = 0 as default. Ticket is opened with medium priority, and still waiting for reply over 2 hours; perhaps they are busy with about over 15 new orders today.

    I signed up for this service yesterday (KVM2) and my findings so far are good. Only down side is:
    1.96M/s down from IPv6, and 24.3M/s connecting to the same native-ipv6 server using V4. There are some speed issues with their ipv6 connection.

    Appart from that I get nice responce times and everything works great.

      KVM5 is 30 Euro per 6 months, KVM1 is 15 Euro per year. How’s that similar?

    2x KVM1 is cheaper than 1x KVM2

      1) we have the right to do stupid things :-)
      2) KVM2 give more than double disk space and bandwidth…
      3) That said when you apply the discount using the promo code you should get the same proportional price
      4) If this was your kindly way for asking for more KVM1 stock I should say it was a complete failure :-)

    When I mention that I would post to LowEndBox.com
