Brandon from Provision Host has sent me a special coupon code for the LowEndBox readers. Promo code LEB.5 would drop the price of “PHVPS.5” from $6.45 to $5.55/month. Direct sign up link here, and the plan comes with
- 256MB memory
- 10GB storage
- 250GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
Only PayPal is supported. Servers in Dallas with DataBank (see this comment for test file). I had a quick test of the VPS when I posted their offer last time. The fact that it still does not include burstable memory on OpenVZ plan means 256MB would be the maximum you can allocate (and most definitely won’t be able to run Minecraft :) They are now listing their staffs now. With 2x “Minecraft Technician” it might be the kind of hosting providers that appeal to some of you… Just not me.

You couldn’t even allowcate 256mb to Java, it won’t let you, and if if you allocate even 150mb, your end up getting a crashed container.
Before you even get out of memory, Minecraft is known to cause this.

Yes that is correct Daniel and at minimum you would require a 512MB VPS. However we have a few trade secrets which makes our VPS platform perfect for Minecraft servers, other game servers, IRC and VPN.
Increases the vmpages in the bean counters, hardly a trade secret ;)
I was referring to the effect of Minecraft on the hardware, how if your computer runs at 50C, Minecraft will do a pleasant job of making it 150C in a few seconds.
