LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

VooServers - £2.70 128MB Xen VPS in UK

VooServers Matt from VooServers emailed me their latest special. Use promo code DOUBLEBW to get 40% off recurring discount + double the monthly data, and this promotion will run until the end of year. Their cheapest plan is now £2.70/month (~USD$4.25) + VAT for those in UK/EU. First bill is pro rata to the end of the month. Direct sign up link.

  • 128MB memory/256MB swap
  • 10GB storage
  • 400GB/month data transfer
  • 1x IPv4 + 10x IPv6
  • Xen/SolusVM

They’ll take payment in PayPal or credit card. Their servers are in Maidstone UK (test IPv4: 91.220.127.200, IPv6: 2a00:1c10:3:634::10). I guess quite a few people here can vouch their service — simply one of the best UK providers featured here. They are also having Hyper-V based Windows VPS in the works & there might be a LowEndBox special for that. Stay tuned.

They do seem to have lots of good and positive reviews on their previous offers.

Hopefully they’ll do better in the quarterly voting.

Great offer but the DC doesnt have the best upstreams in the world they have:

    Cogent
    HE
    Virgin Media
    Netrino
    4D

Sadly no level 3 though :(

Our DC is continually adding upstreams so if you can let me know what you would like in an ideal world I will feedback to them and see what’s in the pipeline. We have recently moved a lot of our customers over from our Sittingbourne data centre and the only feedback on the network we have had is that the latency and speed of the network has greatly improved.

Just one minor counterpoint to this: I have a VPS which was hosted in the Sittingbourne DC and the speed/latency has changed for me now it’s hosted in the current DC. It’s hard to quantify as I didn’t record any traceroutes from the old location but things seem a little slower now.
I’m still more than happy with the overall service though and have been recommending Vooservers to others.

          Hi Jeremy,

Generally we have seen a lot of improvmenets in speed/latency since our data centre migration. Could you please drop us a support ticket with a trace route and we will happily investigate this for you.

I followed up with this just now and this is what they have said:

“We currently do have them, just not directly as we get to them via Virgin Media but they do re-announce us as a full transit.

          From Maidstone via Virgin Media:
          • Level 3
          • C&W
          • Tiscali
          • Global Crossing
          • AboveNet

          From Docklands using private interconnects:
          • Cogent
          • AMS-IX (Amsterdam)
          • EDGE-IX
          • LonAP & ManAP
          • Via AS31715:
          o LINX (Extreme)
          o LINX (Brocade)
          o BT (Private Interconnect)
          o JANET (Private Interconnect)
          • Via AS35662:
          o NT&T
          o Global Crossing
          o Telia
          o HWNG

          From Byfleet via 4D-DC:
          • Seabone / Telecom Italia
          • Hurricane Electric
          • Cogent
          • Global Crossing

All 5 of the Tier-1 providers shown under Virgin Media re-announce us as a full transit customer, as if we had a direct connection with them. We just happen to use Virgin Media’s network to get to them. That said, we are in discussions with Telia and Global Crossing (owned by Level 3) for additional direct connections out of THN at present.”

This is one of those few providers, I can’t say anything bad about.

    16:35:37 up 141 days, 11:28, 0 users, load average: 0.46, 0.36, 0.13

All maintenance are told in advance.

Network is great, stability is great, support is great,.. just great.
I/O, benchmark test are found in older offers. So no need to redo them.

I took Matt’s offer when RackVM went down (remember?) and It was one of the best decisions I made. I have two VooServer VPS at the moment and I have never been happier. Matt is very vocal and keeps his customers updated with whatever is happening on the NODE and the Infrastructure even if it does not effect the VPS much (e.g. DDoS etc)

I have QuickWeb’s XEN VPSes too and if I want to compare both in terms of stability, support & performance, I would say both are the same. Of course VooServers are more tempting because of more resources at lowend prices :)

Support? Well the average resolution time (not RESOLUTION not REPLY) is less than 5min, sometimes the “Ticket has been created” and Resolution emails come at the same time :p

Overall, I am a very satisfied customer of VooServers and I recommend it to anyone looking for a headache free VPS solution with personalized support

I appreciate compared to some providers this is not the cheapest of promotions resource wise however that is not our aim. Our main aim is to provide a high level of support which costs money and as such is reflected in our pricing. How many providers on here can you actually reach by phone 24×7 if they even publish a phone number?

Didn’t you got email from Matt? he says there was a massive DDoS

      SUBJECT: Network Disruption – 03/12/11 23:50 to 04/12/11 00:50
      SENT: 8 hours ago approx

You may have noticed between 23:50 and 00:50 tonight there was some intermittent packet loss with periods of complete outage of your services. This was caused by a denial of service attack on the node you are on which was coming from spoofed addresses which made it quite hard to filter as it was also restricting our access to management tools to find the specific IP it was attacking. In the end we had to resort in rebooting the node and the management equipment to track down the target and this should now be filtered however we are still monitoring it closely.

We do have some advanced denial of service attack systems we are currently testing and were due to implement in a couple of weeks time however we are now looking at bringing this forward to Monday as it would have prevented an attack like this from affecting anyone but the specific IP being targeted. We will send out an e-mail in regards to this once we have finalised plans.

If you still have any services off-line or have any queries please contact us by e-mailing support@vooservers.com or by creating a support ticket in our client portal at https://secure.vooclients.com.

      Best Regards,
      VooServers Support.

          Hi Johan,
Everything has been fully operational all evening so if you are experiencing any issues you may want to drop a ticket in as it looks like it may be an isolated issue to your VPS.

          Hi Johan,
I have looked up your VPS from your name on here and confirmed it was an isolated issue to your VPS. It looks like your VPS may have had an operating system fault or crash as the VPS was not booted and was in an offline state however a shutdown command has not been issue to it as far as we could see. You may just want to have a quick scan over the logs and see if there are any kernel messages there to indicate what the cause was.

Just one thing – vps debian 6.0 64bit has US mirror in /etc/apt/sources.list – and the speed is, like, 20k :( everyone should just change that to some european mirror – I typed in some french mirror, and now apt-get goes something like 6-10mbps :)

Maybe other OSes have some similar issue. So, if your repositories are slow, have a look in sources.list.

Over the next couple of months we are aiming to roll out our own internal mirrors at which point we will be updating all of the templates to point at those. This project was meant to be completed at the beginning of November however due to the hard disk price hikes we have held of until they start to come back down as we are speccing this up with 48TB of space.
