Elena, from VPS.us, has sent in this exclusive offer for LowEndBox readers. We’ve never featured VPS.us before, so do make them feel at home!
VPS XEN
|
VPS.us appear to be a subsidiary of Nashua, New Hampshire based Twinservers Hosting Solutions Inc, who also operate several other hosting brands. Whilst their pretty cool domain has been registered for the past five years, we are told only 2 of those have been under the tenure of Twinservers. Their nodes have between 32GB to 128GB of RAM and multiple WD RE3, WD RE4 and WD VelociRaptor10K disks in Raid 10 (LSI Logic MegaRAID SAS 9271 raid cards with CacheVault). I found these reviews on shopperapproved.com which should be a great help when considering signing up.
VPS.us accept all major Credit Cards as well as Paypal. They have a 30 days unconditional money back guarantee for any VPS package, but licenses, SSL certificates or domain names can not be refunded. Adult content is allowed. IRC bots, proxy scripts, warez, IP Scanners, Brute Force Programs, Mail Bombers and Spam Scripts are not allowed. For more information, take a look at their Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.

The owner is a woman?
what’s wrong with that?
Just asking.
Yeah, what’s wrong with that? However I am not an owner, I’m a General Manager. The owner is a man :)
Nothing wrong, sorry if you got offended. However I have seen only a few tech-interested girls working in the hosting business.
Good luck with your job. :)

The ip Address of server is from Ukraine?
VPS.ua is a sister company, which got ip allocation from ARIN in Europe. VPS.us uses its ip space for servers in the US and Europe. However if you like you can trace the IP and check the actual location of the VPS.
Awesome!!!
Thank you! More questions are welcome :).
IPv6 available in NL?
Not yet, sorry.

These are 50 Mbps that are announced for the LowEnd VPS Package.
Elena, I noticed that the premade templates include Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in only two 64-bit configurations (no 32-bit for 12.04, but there’s a 32-bit for 12.10). Below 4GB memory, 32-bit can be much more memory-efficient. Was that an oversight?
That’s right. We’ve tested and it actually turned out that it is not more energy efficient so no need of offering the template for 32 bit. You can give it a try.
The “free domain name” on signup is owned by vps.us not the customer. https://vps.us/clients/knowledgebase/121/Who-will-own-the-domain-name-registered-for-free.html
Also your billing location needs to be close to your geoIP location or they won’t accept your order.
First, about the free domain option, yes we do indicate that we own the domain name, however this does not mean we have restrictions on how you can use this domain. You can change the name servers to whatever you like etc. Moreover we will be renewing it for free for as long as you have at least one active VPS with us. And in case you want to cancel, you can take the domain with you. I think for a VPS that costs $5.99/mo pretty good feature.
As for the activation process, yes we do have strict activation rules, because the amount of fraudulent orders is rising pretty fast, so we are trying to be attentive and make that we activate only valid orders. But I am sure that the problem can be solved easier, Live Chat guys are very helpful in this matter.
Yes, it is a good deal and yes, the geoIP thing was promptly resolved (support ticket was very quickly dealt with). Above message was just an FYI really :)
Thank you! Hope you’ll enjoy the service :)
After signing up, I received an email from Dmitri to “provide us with a color photo quality copy of your identification (passport/government issued photo ID)”
Not only I would have to scan my driver’s license which would be a hassle, I don’t want to share a copy of it with someone else. I don’t recall the last time I had to that. Getting background check done the Fed, sure. Getting carded at the bar, sure, but emailing a copy of my driver’s license?
Either it wasn’t disclosed or I must missed this requirement during the signup process. This may be their requirements and that’s fine for them, but not for me. I submitted a request to cancel my order.
It is definitely not a requirement, and I apologize for this kind of mistake. We have rechecked your order manually and activated it. Sometimes it happens so that our billing system is too suspicious. Your ticket is being replied now and welcome email with all the details has been sent to your email address. We’ll be glad if you decide not to cancel the order and give us a try.
Thank you.
This place is a joke, I submitted for a VPS. After talking to the guy for 30 min via chat. He sends me an email, saying I need to send in a picture of my photo ID. And provide other information before they will even activate the account. Why any place would need this type of information for a 6 dollar VPS is beyond me. I would take my business elsewhere.
We are not a joke. And there are some cases when we do ask for additional verification details, as we do not want to have users with stolen paypal accounts or credit cards. And I am sure that you would not like to be the one, who is losing money from the CC because some companies do not pay attention to what information clients are submitting when ordering. All personal information that we get is used for verification purposes only and is never disclosed to any third party.
Elena,
I have to disagree, I have now had 6 emails with your company, and have yet to receive my refund back. Also would you like to explain why it took support over 40 min to even find out why the VPS was not online? Serious I would spend my money some place else people. Unless you want to go over and over emails with their sub par support team.
Dresser,
Refund has been already made, this is what paypal shows, and usually it takes some time for the money to appear on your account. As for the account details, most of the orders are processed 24/7, however when the order is considered to be a high risk one the activation process may take longer and may require additional details. This is taken care of by special department, which is also responsible for making refunds. These guys do not work 24/7 and that is why you have been told that refund would be made within a few hours. We do understand that sometimes billing systems that check orders can make mistakes, that’s why we manually check the orders and ask for additional details, and I do understand that some of the potential customers may refuse to give us details, however we have to deal with that as payment processors have rather strict rules, that we have to follow.
Not recommend, through the chat he tells me that the server would be activated in instant, I made the payment through my Paypal account (verified), and he asked details like photo.
Informed him that urgently need the server and because of that could not wait any photo and send check I requested a refund and cancellation invoice and they are taking me to return the money by Paypal.
Do not recommend.
Ordered a Netherlands server about 5 days ago from here, so thought I’d quickly post here.
Had a phone call from a Ukraine number about 50 minutes after ordering to quickly verify my details, and 10 minutes later I received another email with my login details. So I was up and running in just over an hour.
Network speeds and latency are great, disk latency is reasonable, CPU is reasonable as well. I’ve been using this server for hosting Mumble for around 100-150 people, and so far it’s been great – absolutely no complaints from users.
The only slightly annoying thing is the lack of a rescue mode, I managed to botch my upgrade from Debian Squeeze to Wheezy twice. Fortunately I was able to do a fresh reinstall to start again, but obviously this wipes any existing data. I know this is due to SolusVM not having this feature, but it’s just a minor issue. As long as I keep regular backups, it shouldn’t be an issue.
I’d recommend it.
Had the VZ-128 package in Atlanta for a year now and just wanted to give some feedback.
I use it mainly for tunneling my traffic from Germany to the US. Download speed ranges from 1.8 MByte/s (Hamburg, Deutsche Telekom) to 5 MByte/s (Server at Hetzner datacenter Nürnberg) which is great for Youtube, hulu, Steam and netflix.
Also a little webserver runs there as backup service.
For the past 12 months I did not notice any service interruptions or signs of overselling/bad performance.
The support is great, I had to contact the support twice over minor issuses via the chat widget. The staff was very friendly and helpful, both issues had been resolved in less than ten minutes.
I’d definately recommend this service!
verg good vps , it is the best
Warning: this host will drop your VPS and take your money after a single DDoS attack to your server (of 100mbs)
Great and responsive support, speeds are decent as well for the price (25Mbps-50Mbps)
Unfortunately it looks like Hulu blocks the US IP addresses. If you’re planning to get this service for this purpose, then you will likely be disappointed. Other sites seem to recognize the IPs as US based though.
I am using this vps for 2 days. I am very happy with it.
Gentoo blank system has 3.2.12 builded with genkernel. I’ve used /proc/config.gz to install gentoo-sources-3.2.48 without any problems. The only one minus is that I cant buy something like “backup” and “restore” buttons. I hope such buttons will appear in future.
