We featured Rackdog last December and their offer was wildly popular here, generating a flurry of comments.
(Of course, I’m partial to any company with a name like r…dog).
Now they’re back with a new service: Rackdog Cloud. You get pay-as-you-go, hourly-billing KVM systems with unmetered bandwidth.
Usually when someone says “PAYGO” or “hourly billing,” they’re still referring to a limited range of standard sizes. You can choose to run a VM for an hour or a day or a month, but you’re still limited to a set of configuration points – so much RAM, so much CPU, etc.
But on Rackdog’s cloud, you can customize the CPU, RAM, and storage size of your instance during the deployment process to exactly how you see fit!
Let’s dig in.
First, there are all kind of features like the ones you’d expect at those overpriced providers…er, I mean, “big players in the industry”. What kind of features?
- Backups
- Snapshots
- Live cloning
- Dial your VM up/down
- Object storage
- VC network
- Load balancers
- API management
- Unmetered bandwidth
Second, during this promo period, deposit $1 and get a $5 credit bonus with code obnv9p!
And the pricing?
- CPU (vCPU): $0.00195/hour ($1.42/month)
- RAM (GB): $0.0015/hour ($1.09/month)
- NVMe Disk (GB): $0.0001/hour ($0.007/month)
- Bandwidth (GB): $0 – it’s unmetered!
Finally, service is available in
- Ashburn, VA
- Secaucus, NJ
- London, UK
- Chicago, IL
- Sydney, AU
Rackdog is really breaking out of the industry mold here. With all these features, free credit, complete flexibility, and worldwide presence, this amazing provider is ready to meet your needs.

After paying you discover that it’s only available in Ashburn.
Really false marketing.
I registered for the United Kingdom server, but only Ashburn is available, the support said that the Netherlands will be added at the end of the year! That is, there is no news from United Kingdom
I would be happy if they added Paypal as a payment method. I would like the option to add funds as credit.
Good thing I only put in a buck, was hoping for Chicago but all thats avalible is Ashburn, VA. Hopefully they add Chicago sooner or later otherwise my 6 bucks in credits will just sit there
Still only available in Ashburn :(
For about three months, I had been in search of a KVM Virtual Machine provider in the cloud that would be economically accessible and also allow me to add credits as needed. My priority was to find a solution that accepted Paypal or prepaid credit cards, as I preferred not to use my bank account for this purpose.
In the course of my search, two options caught my attention. One was Rackdog, a provider I hadn’t heard of before, despite being familiar with many VPS providers. The other was a well-known player that starts with “Aru*,” a name that needs no further explanation. Given the broader experience and offerings of “Aru*,” I decided to give them a try. The initial experience was positive – I loaded credits for deploying and testing various instances during the first month. I did have concerns about monthly bandwidth limits and reached out to their support for clarification. Their response was concise: “No limits, just ensure you don’t use 100% bandwidth 100% of the time.” This suited my requirements well, and initial tests went smoothly. I eventually migrated a portion of my infrastructure, thanks to the existence of Docker.
However, the situation took an unfortunate turn. While six KVM instances, each equipped with 2 cores, 4GB RAM, and 40GB disks, were operating at less than 30% load for the initial 27 hours, problems suddenly arose. It appeared that “unusual” traffic across these instances was flagged as a violation of their “Fair Usage Policy.” Consequently, all six instances were suspended without prior notice. This left me puzzled and frustrated. The lack of specific details meant I couldn’t access the servers until I opened a support ticket and explained the usage pattern. I found this to be grossly unfair – a sudden suspension affecting 15% of my business without any warning.
Amidst the challenges with “Aru*,” I decided to explore “https://cloud.rackdog.com/referral/jkd0bn.” It turned out to be a decision I’m glad I made. Two months of using Rackdog’s service have been trouble-free. Their control panel is impressively intuitive and incredibly fast. Deploying a KVM instance of Ubuntu takes just about 2 minutes, and real-time monitoring can be done seamlessly from the control panel. What’s even better is the absence of the need to explain or justify my actions regarding the instances. Within half a minute, I can power down a machine, allocate more resources to the CPU, memory, or disk, and power it back up. Taking snapshots is a breeze and is completed in less than 10 seconds.
Rackdog’s service offering proudly claims unlimited monthly bandwidth, and they’ve indeed lived up to it so far. Their approach to IP assignment is intriguing. Instances can be deployed privately first – configured, firewalled, or whatever else is needed – and then, without requiring a reboot, assigned an IP to enable internet connectivity. Additionally, all services are interconnected on a local network, facilitating seamless communication between instances.
With almost 1500 hours of uninterrupted service, I’m committed to expanding my infrastructure with Rackdog. I’m eager to see their continued growth and hope for data center locations in more places in the future – currently, they’re only available in Ashburn. Rackdog’s performance has been exceptional, their features innovative, and their user-centric approach is truly commendable.
We wanted to update everyone that as of last week we have our cloud service available in our Chicago and NY region. We plan to have London integrated as well next month. Thank you for the support!
After a bit of delay we’re now offering pay as you go cloud compute in London!
Dear Allen, We want to rent your server, can we make a partnership with your company? One of my partner contacted you and Shon multiple times but seems you guys are not responding. Can we sit for a meeting?
