Adam, Director of Sales from BuffaloVPS, emailed me about their grand opening sale on their OpenVZ products. Two packages to choose from, and four promo codes to go with them:
- Starter Package (sign up link)
- 256MB memory
- 10GB storage
- 500GB/month data transfer
- $4.25/month coupon code BVPS1, or
$45.00/year coupon code BVPS1year
- Standard Package (sign up link)
- 512MB memory
- 20GB storage
- 1000GB/month data transfer
- $5.50/month coupon code BVPS2, or
$60.00/year coupon code BVPS2year
On their about page, it says “The Best Datacenter in the Business… Our home base in Buffalo”. It does sound a bit weird as we don’t actually have any other provider before that claim to have servers in Buffalo NY. Moreover, if you do a traceroute to their website, it lands on a Buffalo IP — yes. Via ColoCrossing, whose headquarter is in Buffalo NY. And if you think the plans + coupon code look like another company that we featured before. Yup, ChicagoVPS, who is also backed by ColoCrossing/Velocity Servers. Now compare it with ChicagoVPS’s about page. Nor are they trying to hide the fact, that it is Jeremiah who works for ChicagoVPS/ColoCrossing that is on the WHOIS details of BuffaloVPS.com. Looks like they are expanding out, using <City Name>VPS.com/.net as the brand name. To all of ColoCrossing’s 6 datacenters?
You can probably expect the same professional service as from ChicagoVPS. I took the bite and posted this — although I don’t think different moniker from the same company should get pass the 1-post-per-30-day rule. Do share your experience if you decide to give them a go :)

Broken privacy policy, and TOS?

Also can I get a test ip, and a speed test file?
@ Dekken,
Check out the ChicagoVPS website for ToS and Privacy Policy. I will tell Adam tonight to make sure he gets his set up correct. ( Both our ToS will be the same pretty much ). I will have him post a test IP also.

Chris
So what happens if they turn out to be the same company but with a different prefix? Instant ban? Public whipping on Youtube? Free VPSes for everybody? :)
further price reduction would be nice :)
btw, the new LEB design looks fresh. like it.
No. It was raised before that the same company would try to get listed on LowEndBox for more than once a month by sending me multiple offers from different brands (or resellers). I just thought it would be unfair to other providers.
Not trying to ban them, especially with ChicagoVPS/BuffaloVPS who actually seem to provide decent service.
Not a problem and wasn’t suggesting that you do so in this case. Just wondering if you had thought that far along.
I vote for posting a Youtube video of them doing the chicken dance. :)
Gee. Listing criteria for LowEndBox just gets more demanding! Requiring all staffs to participate so we know that they are not one man shop?
I was going to point out these folks from that thread over on LET.
They’re too happy. :)
i think next will be new vps name,
sanjosevps
atlantavps
dallasvps
newyorkvps
NorthpoleVPS
MarsVPS… Ops that domain has already been taken. 20 light-minutes so you are looking at at least 40 minute of ping latency :P
Are these guys actually hosting in New York? I need an east coast provider that isn’t burst.
@Bob,
As of now no both of us are not. The data center will be complete in the next month, two at the latest.
Regards,
Chris
(P.S. We can do a custom setup if you want in NYC, but will be a bit more pricey, email me or talk to support.)
[Off Topic] Ahh.. new theme here. I do prefer the old one though ;-)
(It must be updated within 6 hours.. when I last visited LEB)
Ha. I am no designer but just had 30 minutes to play with CSS3 so there you go :) The structure of the site is still mostly unmodified.
Just to mention, I get a green flash where the comment form should be when I click on the reply link within the comments. (Does that make sense?)
@ LEA,
This actually is a reseller for us. We are helping them out to get their feet wet ( Why you see Jeremiah as administrative contact on WHOIS ). He wants to be primarily only NY servers, but until the data center is ready, he will be selling Chicago to get used to everything. We will be with him every step of the way, so everyone should feel comfortable signing up with BuffaloVPS. ChicagoVPS will also offer NY servers when it is ready.
Regards,
Chris
All the best.
i don’t understand why we need to register our own domain when buying a vps. can someone help me understand this?
It’s no needed. It’s just default WHMCS order process which most hosts don’t change. Chose “I will update my nameservers on an existing domain Or I will register a new domain” and put some your own domain or if you don’t have any something random in.
so i can write like mujixx.com for the i will update my nameservers on an exisiting domain?
and what should i write for hostname/ns1 prefix/ns2 prefix? and for the rootpassword do i come up with my own password or as u said jsut type a nything random?
I went ahead with a 512, as I needed a server, and it was in the right area with low ping times for me. For some reason, they do not offer any 32-bit templates. I ended up choosing the Debian 5 x64.
Setup was very quick, but I was unable to connect to my server. I was also not able to log into the SolusVM panel with the username they provided me.
It was a bit of a comedy of errors, as the links provided to submit a ticket went into a redirect loop, and the Live Support link was dead.
I was able to email the billing dept (at least that didn’t bounce), which sent me the standard boilerplate ticket reply. HOWEVER, that email also contained a functional link to the Billing website (use https and it will avoid the loop: https://billing.buffalovps.com). Once I was able to log into there, it listed the correct username for the SolusVM control panel (prefix the # they gave you with bvps_ ie: bvps_123).
When I was finally able to connect through the SolusVM console, I found that my host did not have any routes. I added a default gateway, and I was able to connect.
It has now been an hour since I submitted my original ticket, and I have yet to receive a reply. To be fair, I was adding to my ticket each step of the way and I was able to fix the issues. But still, it’d be nice to get an apology for the setup difficulties.
I have also run a few tests on my stock 512 VPS:
@LowEndAdmin: Could you change my formatting from <code> to <pre>?
Thanks.
wow i do not recommand this site. they say they will get back to my support ticket in half an hour, and it has been 5 hours. the person on chat wasn’t much help at all either.
@ Muji,
I went on your VPS and the network seemed fine:
I also looked at the livechat logs and in my eyes we tried to help you as much as possible.
Thanks,
Adam
