Here is a new special offer from Dustin of SemoWeb. Plan: “LimitedVPS-PROMO-768MB”, which is not available on their VPS plan page. It’s $6.50/month, which can be ordered here.
- 768MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
- 100GB storage
- 400GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
Servers in either Dallas TX (Limestone Networks) or Orlando FL (HostDime). There does not seem to be a way to choose which location you want the server to be deployed so you have to open a ticket for that. Pricing wise it is actually quite similar to their regular plans. S512 has less guaranteed memory (which is not all that important, comparing to burstable), less storage space, more monthly data, and slightly cheaper at $5.75/month.
They had some good reviews from the last two posts. Unfortunately Dustin had some trouble with one of his slaves but he mentioned that he got some new ones :P Hopefully this batch is more trouble free.

Hello,
This is pretty interesting package…
“Unfortunately Dustin had some trouble with one of his slaves but he mentioned that he got some new ones”
>> Yes… unfortunately my vps was on that trouble slaves.. and I have to cancelled it after several issue happend.. :(
Anyway… I haven’t received the FREE PEN yet until now… :D
Wira,
Did you open a ticket for your pens on our last offer? If so please supply me with that ticket number.
Hello Dustin,
It’s ticket 447694 :)
Thanks..
Hi, Looks like you got them now thanks for the patience.
do I need to assign a Domain for this?
I only want to use the VPS for private purpose and therefore would prefer not to assign a domainname but only to address the VPS by IP…
You don’t need to have/get a domain for buying a VPS. This is just a requirement of the default template of WHMCS if that is what you refer.
We’ve had a few providers previously though who, having seen fake data in there, ToS’ed the account right from the start. May want to ask that as a presales question directly to them.
Hi,
If thats the case then you do not have to you can simply fill in dummy text.
If you really cant afford to buy one dot.tk supports private name servers now… Not sere how relable they are, havnt used them. You can always get a .info for about 60 cents now as well
where is 60 cents i need buy asap !
On the home page – it should be “servers” not “server’s”.
I think it’s been like that since day 1:
http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/semoweb-6-50-256mb-managed-openvz-vps/
I can’t see the ‘ mark in the screencap but I see a fairly decent space between the server and the trailing s.
I didn’t use VPS from semo yet, but have an alpha reseller. Their support is really great. And too quick. But this days too much downtime made a lot of customers angry :D
Hi,
The issues with server 30, server1 have been fixed so our alpha resellers should not be witnessing anymore issues for those 2 servers.
Was issue of Server 30 fixed?
Tanmoy,
Yes at this time we are not facing any known issues.
whoo! everyone loves slaves.
I’m somehow amused why not many takers on this offer, superb disk space and good amount of ram. Of course BW could be more for such disk space.
Guess you didn’t get lucky being submitted right after ifart.co, lol.
We been around for over 3 years and plan to stay here for much much longer. ;)
I have a Dallas VPS with these guys and I highly recommend it!
Might even order this one for the hell of it, so is this located in dallas or orlando Dustin?
Todd,
Thank you for the kind words, These are set up randomly in Orlando and Dallas how ever if its created in a location you did not wish for just open a ticket and we will move it accordingly.
Suppose i’ll update my review from the previous post. I have 2 VPSs on 2 nodes – one in Orlando and the other in Dallas for a client. The Orlando one has good uptime, but performance has become a bit flakey. The one in Dallas has been down quite a bit and for fairly big amounts of time, but performance on it is good and uptime is improving. Support has always been fantastic, so no complaints there. For the price, i’m happy i guess.
We did have issues with Dallas last month but nothing recent nothing should be flaky either. Please give me a support ticket so I can locate your services and make sure everything is running as it should.
Just submitted a ticket for the performance issue. #652795
Hello, It appears our last shift resolved it. If you are still facing issues let us know.
Seems to have improved. Thanks.
Jamie,
Thanks for the update please let us know if you need anything else.
Got one of these last night. Extremely fast setup, and the one ticket I opened (rDNS request) was handled in a respectable time. Only downside is I would rather have had it in Dallas than Orlando but it’s not a big enough deal to worry about bothering them to move it.
xhack,
Glad to hear it and thank you for choosing us.
If at any time you require it provisioned in Dallas just open a ticket it does not bother us we are here for our customers.
semoweb, can you update use how long this offer will be available?
I’d like to order, but would be nice to do that next week.
Hello,
We will keep restocking for roughly 2 weeks if not more.
Super.
I’ve been on an Orlando node for about 6 months now and have no complaints. Support is always quick. Performance is exactly inline with what I would expect for the price I’m paying. So far, these guys are the best discount VPS I’ve come across.
I think I’m going to have to change my opinion of them after today’s 4 hours of unscheduled downtime.
Hello,
Which node are you on? Also do you have a ticket number?
just got mine in Orlando and it’s really fast :D:D
Nadine,
Thank you for the feed back please let us know if you face any issues.
How many people are reviewing SemoWeb here to get a free month of VPS hosting? Well I am happy for any kind of reviews, but please state VERY CLEARLY whether you are compensated for it.
Those may be considered illegal here in the US:
http://www.inc.com/news/articles/2010/08/ftc-settles-case-over-fraudulent-reviews.html
And just to cover my own butt, Quickweb gave me a free month of hosting due to a billing concern over a year ago. :)
@Erawan Arif Nugroho, if you see this, I believe posting WHT links are fine. LEA’s note up there is just a warning that the comment may be seen by Akismet as spam. Many of us post WHT links without issue.
I got an email regarding this.
Yeah, I got an email from them too, asking for a review in exchange for a month free. Didn’t exactly sit well with me.
I just noticed the youtube bit in the email posted to WHT.
No one yet but there’s some negative reviews up there as well:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=videos&search_query=semoweb&search_sort=video_date_uploaded&suggested_categories=17%2C23
@drmike
You must have a lot of free time on your hand.
Always busy checking out hosts and digging up every little pebbles doing your best to find even the tiny bit of dirt about the competition – keep up the good work!
Not enough actually. Haven’t finished reading a book in like 3 months. Have like 5 or 6 started.
How can he not checking out hosts when lots of hosting companies were bugging him to buy them?
*sigh* Got two more this weekend. One of them the owner wants to be carried on as an “advisor” in case he’s needed for help for the change over.’
In other words I pay him for letting me buy his company after buying the company.
Actually I have about a dozen tabs open and am going back and forth between them as I wait for each one to load.
That was a while ago when a person who stole our logo and its on wht… well to sum it up he was ddosing as we fled a DMCA. since he stole our logo and tried his best to make us look bad.
Filed** typos hehe
LEA should also monitor LET and make sure some host are not playing dirty tricks to manipulate the votes and point system. :)
All my reviews aren’t compensated. Posted it, then sent the email. Makes me a bit uncomfortable that they are offering it, TBH. Maybe i’m just picky.
Hi
just ordered a VPS, ordering procedure went perfect, but now I encounter a problem: I use Ubuntu 10.04, tried to install OpenVPN server on my VPS but failed. It seems, TUN/TAP is not supported? modprobe tun results in “not found”.
Any suggestions, should I change to a different OS?
Thanks for your help
Usually you have to open a support ticket and request TUN/TAP support. Many providers do not turn on TUN/TAP support as a default. You have to request it.
was solved VERY FAST
Thanks!
Hello,
Sorry missed this comment glad it was resolved.
Hello,
It is supported just open a ticket and we will gladly enable it.
Dustin from SemoWeb is very friendly and helpful guy. And Semo’s support is also excellent, I think they can do well if can keep these continued.
Tanmoy, Thanks and most importantly thank you for the opportunity.
don’t they have an os template with openvpn already installed?
Hello,
At this time we do not. We happily enable ppp, tun/tap.
Ordered Orlando
Created a support ticket but even after two replies from support, no resolution (would keep you all updated)
I have seen several Raid 10 providers with worse. You must remeber at the end of the day you are on a node and other people’s resource usage is going to effect your VPS’s speed. But for a budget provider that isnt half bad.
I/O is completely fine…
Agree, what do you expect for $7 ¬_¬ damn
Well, we are argue over this in LET but I am getting way more (almost double) from BuyVM/XenVZ/QuickWeb/Hostigation and more. The most I am paying from all three is BuyVM (others are on quarterly so more discounted) and that too is almost half the price I paid SemoWeb.com
XenVZ 6pounds/6months
BuyVM 236MB = $3.5/mo
QuickWeb 128MB DE XEN = (a very old $13/quarter)
Hostigation 128MB KVM = $3/mo
and even my BurstNET (very unpopular almost everywhere) has good IO
So when you say IO is completely fine and what do you expect, I do not agree.
*can
duh! typo
It’s good that you are so demanding. When I bought a dedicated server from s4u it had 23MB/s on DD test, now when it’s in production it has 19MB/s.
You get 2x more on VPS, no idea why complain.
My dedis do a lot lot more then that. Just because I am active here hunting and commenting does not mean I don’t owe dedis (I have 3 at the moment).
Yes, I may be demanding then the average user but QuickWeb/BuyVM/Hostigation/XenVZ (and even BurstNET) are fulfilling my IO/network needs :)
@Tom
23MB/s is quite low for a dedi, you should check it out
i get around 45-55 from sata in software raid1 on cheap hdd with cheap mobo
@akam,
SATA II, 5,400 rpm, 8 MB
RAID RAID 1 by software (It’s an old 2x athlon).
I’m fine with what it does, the bargain was only 40$.
Sorry Asim, but I think you must pay more or go with other provider if you expect that.
And your comparison are from other level. Different virtualization, location, datacenter, disk space, all these are factors for a final price.
I had like 100 MB/s in vpstree, why? Nobody can do so much with 64 MB RAM.
With buyVM, you have 70MB, others > 100, I have about 30, I can’t complain.
And so…
Some certain people expect dedicated performance from a shared server.
That is just stupid!
@Yomero what has datacenter to do with IO? BuyVM/BurstNET are both lowend and both less then SemoWeb and both offering double the IO that I am getting on SemoWeb?
The reason why you can’t complain is because you dont need that much IO, you may be an average user, I cant like with that
I already stated, I cannot work with low IO.
@Adam well I am strongly against using rage / anger in public and I try not to use it myself. If you have anything to contribute please do, else stop wasting everyone time by commenting “That is just stupid!”
I hope you get my point
No, you were talking about price, I said
“Different virtualization, location, datacenter, disk space, all these are factors for a final price.”
Not about I/O, I/O is one factor
So I guess you have an app that regularly writes out 1 GB files, and it’s performing poorly?
Sort of, yes. If I move my apps/scripts on Semo now with the inconsistent IO (did I mention its bouncing off between 30-45MB/sec) it will not complete all operations.
Hello,
Can I get the ticket number which isn’t be resolved?
#665918
Asim,
The server was taken offline and the sata cables were replaced everything else appears fine.
Its happening again
44 MB/s and complain? really ಠ_ಠ
Yes, please read above why I am complaining
It turns out that 45MB/sec is the MAX I can get on the VPS, its bouching off between 10-45MB/sec
I can’t live with this, waste $6.5 on this one
So Asim, did they manage to improve the I/O?
Changed cables last night, a bit improvement but still almost in the same range (max 47MB/sec). Probably its just my node
By the way, I never tested and saw 11.6MB/sec before, I need to test more
The VPS just came online after 1 hour and 45 min of downtime (as reported by my NAGIOS machines + external tracking services). Created support tickets as soon as the first host-down alert came up BUT no one replied to my ticket still.
I never had such a long downtime with any of the hosts I mentioned in this ticket. One thing is clear, I wont be extending my account to next month
When asked WHY it took 1 hour and 45min for my VPS to come back online, I was thrown this
Make sense? How cramped up the server is that it took 1 hour and 45min to let my VPS come back online? That means this is not the first time I am experiencing this, there may be such issues in future too since its “usual” in their sense.
Hello,
If the node was offline and the VPS were not properly shut down due to immediate outage at the DC and it requires a reboot, and it appears the dc did not boot into openvz kernel thus we had to do this and then reboot the machine again… The vzquota takes time for each vps to boot up. I’m sorry that it took that long , you could of simply done the reboot inside solusvm to escalate it rather than wait for the automated boot up.
Also vzquota depends on each vps GB’s not the amount of vps on the server, you can think of it like an fsck for each vps.
Asim maybe ask them to change the node you are on. You are probably just unlucky, others seem to be getting ok speeds :P
Agree
So your node also got effected like mine?
Slave 4, Florida. I know this happens sometimes, but now they are not doing nothing :S
Thanks for the advice but after http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/semoweb-6-50-768mb-openvz-vps-in-dallas-or-orlando/#comment-35984, I think I am going to cancel at the end of the billing cycle.
What kind of server uses SATA cables, anyway? Shouldn’t they have hot pluggable disks to minimize downtime?
If you have the money, yes.
I’ve worked at some small companies with small budgets, and I’ve never seen a server with SATA cables. I had no idea such a thing even existed. Are these desktop units or what? How do you mount it in the rack? This whole thing confuses me and reeks of a mickey mouse operation.
LOL. My last server did not have a SATA cable. It had a PATA cable :) And if they are SATA drives, how do they connect the hot plugable drive cage to the motherboard? Using SATA cable! Not everything is on SAS drives or SAN over 10Gbit ethernet these days, especially providers at this price range.
@Ryan
Nothing is mickey mouse everyone’s set ups are different its like bashing a provider because they do not support hot swap drives. It doesn’t make them “mickey mouse”.
Everyone’s set ups are different.
Maybe isn’t the right post because I have their 3.50 plan…
I am sorry about this but I must be honest
Very very slow I/O since yesterday (maybe more but I noticed it yesterday). Slow support, and “fake” answers (it seems like they are not doing nothing at all).
I nominated semoweb for this quarter but… I am getting regret of that.
What is happening with your good support Dustin?
+1.
As mentioned in my earlier review, performance was declining, but it’s just become worse and worse. I’ve tried working with you for a while now on the issue and nothing is happening. Support claims they’ve looked into it, but it’s just as bad. This week has been a disaster with uptime as well. Probably hitting around 5-6 hours downtime spread out this week? I I’m not one to post reviews, good or bad, but i’m only posting this as a follow up to what i posted earlier.
So what currently the I/O range on your nodes?
Was less than 10MB/s. Almost unusable sometimes.
Jamie, None of our nodes have had known downtime as you have mentioned I’m very interested in a ticket number please so I can locate which node you are on.
Also if you can provide us with logs of the downtime please.
I’m on Slave 4 like Yomero. Ticket was mentioned earlier. Monitoring is through UptimeRobot who only have a 24 hour graphic log (that i know of anyway), but i have the emails as proof and was online each time it was down to confirm it. How can you say it has had no known downtime when you posted on Twitter that it was getting looked at for overheating anyway?
Update. After requesting someone else to review my situatio, I received a more polite answer, and not another “I will check it” or “Is better now”.
Now I am waiting for more news.
Currently is a little bit better (more usable), but still sucks :S
They should add more hard drives to RAID array or shift to SAS or SSD. Until then, no matter how good their support is, service will be useless and below average. I’m canceling next month.
100gb SSD space for 6.5$? Where to I signed up? ^^
Hi iKocka,
Can I get your ticket number?
@iKocka LOL, SSD drives for a budget provider? Get out of here!
@semoweb: You have replaced SATA cable already, however I/O is below 20 MB/s all the time. As mentioned above I’m going to cancel VPS and definitely won’t recommend your company.
@PenguinTux: I just suggested what they have to do to improve I/O. Even adding additional hard drive to RAID array would help.
Yomero, I responded to your ticket, we are facing many issues with that node that you and a few others are located on and we are trying our best to resolve this. We value all your business and no where are we changing we still and will continue to provide top notch service we hope we can regain your trust towards our company.
Thanks, answered again n_n
I’m on slave3 which have slow performance recently. It’s look like happen for Huge IOwait everyday. This issue already work in ticket but just want to know anyone is on slave3 and have issue like me?!?
They have same issues on all of their nodes. When they reply with “It’s better now.” it will be better for few hours and then there will be hugh I/O wait again. Waste of time and money.
Yes, I always got reply like this. Hope this will permantly fix soon. lol
Which nodes have you been on? We do not have issues on all our nodes. Hardware does fail, whether it be drives ( thank god for RAID), sata cables, overheating, etc and we do our best to keep things running but it seems you have been on all our nodes can you name them so I can review?
I’m on “Slave10”. Just run a test for you:
Anyways, isn’t funny that you always come with exuses such as hardware failuture and overheating, but after you “fix” it the performance is same as before? The truth is that your nodes can’t handle the number of VPSs you put on them.
@iKocka,
Never is my intention to pass false information to clients, we have been in business for over 3 years trust me my goal is to have happy clients not to provide horrible uptime, trashy servers, etc… If you would like I can get you moved over to another node while we work for a resolution on slave 10.
Do whatever you like, I’m not using it ATM because it’s useless. Come back to me once you will be able to provide stable I/O performance (40+ MB/s) and I will consider about staying with you.
@iKocka, I wont be playing games nor will be going back to you, I offered to move you over to another node and thats the best I can do for you. Its up to you to take the offer or decline it.
Have a good day.
Nobody wants you to play games. Move me to a node which you think is constantly performing good and I will consider then about staying with you.
Slave 3 was over heating and as of yesterday it seems like the dc has resolved this.
look like, haveing problem with slave3 again. at this time, could you pls check?
@Zidit, Please open a ticket and we will gladly look into it.
@iKocka Please open a ticket requesting this as we cannot use a third partie site as an official request.
interested on updates
Node 4, 19 September 2011 :-/
SLAVE 4: :-/
I feel sorry for people who got scammed on this, just proves that we don’t have a single good host with high storage, because all of them oversell their crappy servers until it becomes good for nothing. And this proves semoweb is complete garbage on all their plans. Almost never see good comments, in a month of time their servers are bound to go down.
So far no resolution to the SLOW Semoweb server. But you appear to be correct Tom, overselling is probably the problem. I had found another VPS provider, which shall remain nameless, that has, so far, very fast servers. But if I reveal the name, then they will take-on more customers and service will go into the dumpster. :-/
YEah, I was in slave4 too. Just joke answers from the staff
Apparently DOG SLOW 8.8MB/s is fast to Semoweb, here is there answer: “I do not see any issues with the current iowait and transfer speeds as there is a tremendous amount of disk activity for these disks.”
They are going to zombie? xD http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1084849
SEMOWEB servers are DEAD at this time.
Doubt that, most likely only your node. Hes still making a few $ from this oversold servers, why backout?
Two nodes, servers, down for over a day and not even a reply on a support ticket.
Guess I was wrong, judging from WHT seems like semoweb is about to into the deadpool.
