Forever Hosting - $19.95/Year 256MB OpenVZ VPS in Scranton

Updated February 2012: Forever Hosting is unfortunately, not forever. It died somewhere in 2011, and it’s homepage has been showing cPanel login page for a while.

Forever Hosting Michael from Forever Hosting sent me a new offer last week. Similar offer as last time, but in Scranton PA rather than Los Angeles CA. It’s $19.95/year with the following spec:

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 35GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Direct sign up link here. They also have an offer of $4.95/month for 512MB/1024MB memory, 40GB storage and 700GB/month data transfer, if you don’t want to pay annually. They are almost a year old now, as their domain was registered in August 2010. However there seems to be a transfer of domain ownership from Colin to Keith in Sydney, Australia. Sold? They also had a few issues with their website earlier this month. Some VPS were reported off-line, and I wonder whether everything has resolved.

Seems to be in stock for me right now. I think you are misreading the product list, it’s the VPS right below this offer that is out of stock.

      Also:

“Additional IP Addresses: $9.00 USD” wow, the IPv4 exhaustion is really near. :)

      > Similar offer as last time, but in Scranton PA rather than Los Angeles CA.

In the checkout form I can choose the location from Scranton, Los Angeles and Manchester(UK!).

Important stuff: 7 day moneyback guarantee on VPS
Later down in the ToS, they only offer a 3 day moneyback guarantee on VPS
You are also required to create and maintain a complete backup of everything Forever Hosting has hosted (the terms don’t specify just your stuff, so I assume you are required to backup everyone’s content and not just your own).
You must cancel 10 days before the next billing cycle.
You may not run a process that requires more than 8 MB of memory space.
You may not run daemons, proxies, or anonymizers.

On their website they advertise, “No Contracts or Hidden Fees”, “99.9% Uptime Guaranteed “, “7 Day Money Back Guarantee”. So I assume you at least get the 7 day moneyback guarantee.

    July 28, 2011 @ 12:21 pm | Reply
    • Also:

Run stand-alone, unattended server-side processes at any point in time on the server. This includes any and all daemons, CGI proxy servers (we allow PHP-based proxy scripts under our Proxy Hosting plans only), and anonymizers.

Some of these terms make sense only for a shared hosting, not VPS.
But being careless about what is and what is not in the TOS (and being marked clearly whether it applies to a particular service or not), is inexcusable that’s for sure.

      • Jason:

I assume many of the terms were meant to apply only to shared budget hosting and not VPS or their $68/mo dedicated servers. Nevertheless, you do agree to the terms and claiming that certain clauses shouldn’t apply to you is no legal defense.

        • Hello,

You are right. Most of our TOS rules about this are about Shared/Reseller Hosting. We allow most of all on our VPS/Dedicated servers.

DO NOT believe if he say he can do it. Michael promised me many things, and never kept his promises after I joined. Only join when you’re sure he actually did what you asked him for.

        • Jason:

You can start by asking him for one. Some hosters would rather be rid of you than deal with any backlash from keeping your $19.

If he refuses, you can post about it here, post about it on WHT, post about it on his Twitter account, lodge a complain with his government’s fair trade department, or send him an email.

I don’t see a phone number on their site, and they don’t advertise their actual address. Buyer beware. I would be very wary about signing up for a service from people when they don’t even give you an address.

Jason is very naive,LEB has posted many VPS owned by cheaters, for example w2servers.com. I have lost more than $500 for that. They never setup the VPS and no refund,no replies. you can check this on WHT. Don’t trust the guy who said refund!

What do you use to back your statement up? In this end of market (budget low end boxes), I do not think there is anything that can be said “rest assure”.

          Unless you work for them?

Do not use this host, they are scammers. We got the 2GB VPS with one week money back guarantee and decided on the second day that the hardware wasn’t enough. Our old 1GB from another host was much better. I requested the money back and after several reminders I finally got a response after fifteen days where they said they can’t give me the money back. I never really understood why…

wait couple months. now everytime I open a ticket I am getting an acknowledgement and…. that’s it. they’re fixing some of the issues over 3 months now. they cared at first glance, but the longer I’m staying with them the longer I wait for anyone to get back to me. and the problems persist

      • Hello everyone,

Thanks for the feedback on our hosting. We do care if we didn’t we would not be here to help.

If you sent in a ticket and had to wait it’s because we got a ticket bombed on us due to spam. It got in and we had to clear it out. Also we do not state we need to reply within a time frame, with that waiting hour’s on end is not good. But if you waited more then 1 hour then yes get a hold of me.

        -Michael.

just to let you guys know, my server is offline from last week. for first couple days fehosting didn’t even want to acknowledge this fact and kept sending me messages that “everything is ok on their side”, when it clearly wasn’t. they don’t reply to tickets sooner that with 2-3 days delay. now, 5 days later they are ‘looking into the issue’ and ‘may want to change my IPs’ to fix it. the server is completely down with the range of IPs that were previously assigned to it not replying. tracert gets lost in the datacenter
support is nonexistant as there is communication. looks to me like a typical one man operation, during a year with them I’m always being replied by the same person

Wait, you can’t do that. This is LEB! You have to stay with them for months after they go down, keep paying your bill even though you’re not receiving the services that you are paying for, support them verbally whenever questions their commitment and customer service, and lash out at those who call you a fruitcake for doing so.

        That’s the LEB way!

I did however get an email about their Thanks Giving promo and an invoice. Seems like the important part of the business is still up and running.
