Got a nudge from Jacob of SpotVPS to post their offers again. They do seem to provide some decent priced plans, and their $15/year 128MB OpenVZ plan is currently in stock :) Their “Platinum” plan is at $5.49/month (direct sign up link here), and it comes with
- 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
- 40GB storage
- 2000GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps
- 1x IPv4 + 16x IPv6
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
“Premium” plan is somewhere in between — $2.99/month for 256MB/512MB memory, 20GB storage and 1000GB/month data. Servers are with Continuum in Lombard IL (test IP: 74.117.237.218). SpotVPS is the budget VPS arm of ComfortHost, who has been around since 2003/2004, and is currently owned by Foroquimica SL in Spain. You might wish to double check their ToS/AUP as there are quite a lot of less-obvious restrictions. For example — no audio/video streaming (huh?), no adult-oriented content (wtf?), no transmission of negative/defamatory language (make sure no F-word in your blog posts), etc. However I can’t seem to locate the restriction on IRC anymore, which made some debates on their previous post.
Not many reviews from previous post either, as in the end people just troll over that-company-who-must-not-be-named. You do get some opinions/reviews at this WHT thread though.

ComfortHost I guess :P
went there, did see green one their live chat box.
so click it and wait for someone.
did wait 10min minimum, but no response.
great.
Their support is great, it seems HDD is limited at 66MB/s =D I’m going to purchase another VPS from SpotVPS :D
Giang, where did you buy vps for giang.us . Very fast speed from my location (china)
Peer1 Datacenter @ Fremont. (Unsure: with resellerspanel.com) If I remembered right, Peer1 has peering (most likely not settlement-free lol) with China Net. My recommendation is go with VPSColo’s LA location which currently satisfy me pretty well (well.. most likely for climbing the GFW.. :P) and if you need a speedtest then please shoot me a email at klikli@ymail.com (well VPSColo’s speedtest file is over HTTPS so some performance decrease..)
KLIKLI, are you from HongKong?
Yep.
Yes, KLIKLI is right, giang.us is hosted at ResellerPanel
@KLI: Peer1 seems better HE for Asia, right?
Yes yes yes and yes. However.. BuyVM’s now adding nLayer which also peers with both China Unicom and China Telecom is now super fast in terms of connectivity to China too. If you need, give me your current IP and I can do a traceroute from both VPS’.
Ok, online on Gtalk tonight and we can discuss then. So, you may know who i am =)) Long time to see, dude!
:o:o No one from China on my GTalk:P anyway see you :P
Bought both a $15/yr VPS and a Platinum – LOVE the Platinum… $15 is very nice as well.
Support response about 1-2 hours.
+1 for this bit:
>All servers used by SpotVPS have been bought with internal cash.
Sounds like they have a clue.
I;m reading their ToS as well and to me it sounds like what I have to agree to when I use of my my library terminals. “accuracy and quality of the information”? That’s not something one normally applies to a client.
There’s a 200 email limit in place. I guess a small forum would max that out quickly.
Parts seem to be a copy and paste as well:
http://www.google.com/search?q='expects+that+its+subscribers+who+provide+Internet+services+to+others+will+comply+fully+with+all+applicable+laws+concerning+the+privacy+of+online+communications‘
I wonder if it was created by an automated generator.
Just to follow up, looks like the email limit is flexible:

They will just remove the limit if you send them a ticket. They’ve removed mine to. But they require that all email has an option to opt-out :P
server went down, no explanation, came back, again, no explanation.
They don’t show what node I’m on but my VPS is still online from the first time I placed an order :D

benchmarks? interested…
I’ve done a small benchmark, take a look at: http://budgetvps.co/2011/06/spotvps-128m-openvz-15year/
can’t login again, vps is soooo slow.
It’s been happening everyday now.
