DialAServer - £3.59 256MB OpenVZ VPS in France

DialAServer Paul from DialAServer referred me earlier this month to this HostingDiscussion offer that they are currently running. Promo code FRENCHVPS25 will get you 25% off recurring discount on their new France nodes. “Baby” plan is now £3.59/month after the discount (~USD$5.89). Here is the sign up link, and you get

  • 256MB memory
  • 40GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Payment methods: PayPal, Moneybookers and AlertPay. There does not appear to be any burstable memory for “Baby” plan. Servers hosted with OVH in Roubaix, France. It’s a UK-registered Ltd (company number 07191737) that has been incorporated in March 2010, but their related domain DialAHost.co.uk has been registered since September 2009.

  1. I know I get concerned when I see no burstable memory on a plan.

      We try not to offer burst ram, however some of the plans do have it!

      If anyone is in need of a little more ram or burst, let us know and we will do that for you :)
      There is plenty to go around!

      Thanks LEA for listing us :)

      • An OpenVZ VPS without burstable memory would be a lot less useful, unless they are on CentOS/RHEL 6 nodes with vswap. I know I usually put the guaranteed memory in the title, but the theoretical amount you can use is usually the burstable memory for the old UBC nodes.

    Rate this offer … The star rating system is not that good as some offers deserve 0 stars.

      You think this offer deserves 0 stars?

      Any particular reason?

        1 star = bad
        0 star = look elsewhere

          Yes, I understand that part, but I don’t understand why they deserve 0 stars?

          If you have bad experience with them, feel free to share your story.

          Vedran,

          First, you don`t need to have experience with them to rate the offer.

          My point is the star rating is meaningless because you don`t know what is the reason a provider receives x stars as it results from an individual mix of priorities and importance which you don`t known nothing. How much weights the price, the location, data center, support experience, years in business, specs, virtualization technology …?

          Moreover standard things in some countries are rare in others. E.g. you can tolerate a single-homed provider in Thailand but hardly one in the US.

        • Francisco:, I think you’re missing the point. We’re asking you why you want to give them zero stars.

          @drmike

          I didn`t say I want to give them 0 stars.

          “Rate this offer … The star rating system is not that good as some offers deserve 0 stars.”

          0 stars = not that interesting offer, not a special offer.

          I see “1 star” == “bad”

          Regarding “missing the point” what does it mean a 1.6 star (current)? What it means to the provider? People didn`t like the price? Disk space? Bandwidth? And for someone looking for a VPS? Why the provider is getting a low rating?

          I’m not sure what the point of a zero rating is – just don’t rate if you don’t think they deserve a rating. It’s like the joke in Spinal Tap about cranking the volume up to 11.

          However I do agree with Francisco that the star rating is meaningless and IMO it should be scrapped. At best it’s too simplistic, as well as pointless when there is already a description of the offer (for people to make up their minds whether it’s good or not) as well as lots of comments from people with their opinions and experience (to further help people make up their mind).

          At worst, or more likely, people will simply rate low regardless of the offer because they have an axe to grind about the provider, or they are rivals to the provider. And people will vote high regardless of the offer because it’s their own offer or because they are fanboys of the provider (eg the attitude to BuyVM here).

          This probably isn’t the right place to discuss this, though.

    • Guys. There are stars there for you click on DOES NOT mean you need to click and rate the offer. You can rate with your gut feelings (some just smells dodgy from a mile away), and you can rate the offers months later when they are in dead pool. 0 star = don’t vote at all!

    Just a heads up, DialAServer was listed however it is DialAHost that is running the promo, maybe LEA can change that?

    It’s actually nice location in the firt place, for a lot of regions. A test IP for France would be nice of them. And regarding the rating I would rate it high because of the location and disk space which I usually care for both.
