People probably have been waiting since the last BuyVM sale. Yes, the re-stock is finally here, and at 1PM GMT-7 on 15 October 2011 (yes today), they will be available on BuyVM‘s website (or use DoesBuyVMHaveStock.com). It’s a birthday sale — not exactly BuyVM’s birthday (which would be April 26 according to the domain registration date), but the Chief Pony’s. All the plans will be restocked, but Fran has noted some KVM plans that might be of interest. For example:
- 128MB memory
- 15GB storage
- 500GB/month data transfer
- $25/Year
- 256MB memory
- 30GB storage
- 1000GB/month data transfer
- $5/Month
- 128MB memory
- 250GB storage
- 100Mbps download/5Mbps upload unmetered
- $7/Month
(Yes I know the last one was $7.50/month on BuyVM at the moment, but Fran did write $7/month in his email, with a note saying “very very limited stock of these”). Windows 2003 is also available on all KVM plans for no extra charge. San Jose servers — all owned gears with some pretty nice network connectivity. Since August they have also replaced SolusVM with their own control panel known as “Stallion” that’s specially designed for KVM.
So there you go. For Francisco — Happy Birthday! and for the rest of you — get your stopwatch ready because from experience it’s going to be a rush. 1PM GMT-7, or 1318708800 seconds since epoch (I think).

The last one ($7) is kvm?
Right :)
As mentioned, all plans, including our $15/y OVZ’s, will be restocked.
Francisco
I always tough the storage plan was ovz ^_^ hopefully I can get some this time :D
We considered it but since they’re a pretty special offer we decided to do KVM for them. The CPU isn’t as high spec in storage plans but it’s still pretty good (Dual Quad L5320’s)
Francisco
All plans? When you’ll be restocked storage plans?
I should add that stallion handles all of our VPS offerings, not just KVM :)
It has been a complete zoo to get it all coded up but it has been working well.
Francisco
Any screenshot of the Admin side of the Stallion SolusVM replacement?
Does Stallion provide bandwidth pooling across multiple VPS’s?
Happy birthday! Enjoying those kills on IRC? :p
Also: http://buyvmcountdown.cedricd.org for a countdown
I hate you guys so much. :(
ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWN~
Francisco
Is that wrong? http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/gmt-7/
It displays 3 hours, I make it 2.
Whats PM Stock for?
Already out of stock?
Wow :)
Stock comes at 1PM GMT -7 ;)
Francisco

Is it possible to pay yearly for 5$/month or 7$/month plans?
Yep.
$5/month yearly price = $50
$7/month yearly price = $70
Francisco
Happy Birthday Fran. any chance to get storage VPS? i’m looking for my personal use, so would be the small one. :P
Free PE / Size 787887 / 3.01 TB
That’s all I got left on the storage array so i’ll be doing private offers for the most part for people on IRC and for awesome LEB members like yourself :)
Send me a PM on WHT with what you’re interested in and i’ll arrange it.
Francisco
TOS is sick. You can not modify your name, email addr, phone number etc in their WHMCS by yourself. And they do not allow me use my friend’s paypal to pay. And their only accept that paypal account should be the same with your email addr. Account credit can not be refunded. I would stay away from them.
with additional, if you violate tos the above mentioned, your data will be directly deleted without any notice.
Hah.
Hardly.
You refused to abide by the TOS and were given 30 days to do so. You started a thread on WHT about it and your own countrymen defended us instead of you. Other hosts stood up for us as well. You violated the very TOS you agreed to, so who’s the one at fault? Are you willing to admit you did NOT read the TOS and blindly accepted?
Francisco
You deleted my data immediately and not give 30 days to let me fix it. I am not a member of WHT but i am in Hostloc. Thank you.
Your data is still there according to Aldryic.
You did make a thread on WHT as well :)
Francisco
You are sure that you know who i am?
Haha, read this on WHT too, it was the “Sick” that gave him away.
jeez some people just live under that bridge their whole life eh?
Trololol.

There is no data to collect. As this was a fraud investigation, all services were immediately halted. I explained this in the very first ticket reply to you. Since you received a full refund from the purchase, the VPS and DNS services were terminated.

i am another not that one you think!
If it was a fraud case then there isn’t much to argue here.
Francisco
fraud? it’s funny. Every one can see below, i paid every invoice, they did not point out half year.
22582 08/08/2011 08/10/2011 $24.52 USD Refunded View Invoice
21519 07/22/2011 08/01/2011 $5.95 USD Paid View Invoice
20876 06/21/2011 07/01/2011 $5.95 USD Paid View Invoice
20102 05/23/2011 06/01/2011 $5.95 USD Paid View Invoice
19582 04/26/2011 05/01/2011 $5.95 USD Paid View Invoice
18336 03/28/2011 04/01/2011 $5.95 USD Paid View Invoice
17662 03/04/2011 03/06/2011 $5.37 USD Paid View Invoice
I suppose any of the payments could be fraud individually.
he did’t write the right information doesn’t make it a fraud.
you can suspect it as a fraud only…
@shadowlin;
No, the problem was that 4 different people were paying with the same PayPal account. All of them received the same treatment he did; he’s just the only one still crying about getting caught with his pants down.
4 different people? Are you crazy? I use twice that month with this account, i can paste paypal transactions here to show to public. Do not lie to public.
2011-Aug-17 Reversal From Frantech Completed Details $24.52 USD
2011-Aug-09 Payment To Frantech Reversed Details -$24.52 USD
2011-Aug-02 Payment To Frantech Completed Details -$5.95 USD
@bengchacha
I will have to disagree with you that changing details will cause TOS violation. I have a VPS with them and asked them (via ticket) to change some info due to regulations in my country. They agreed to it as soon as I provided the explanation why.
I think all it takes is proper communication and coordination. Putting yourself in BuyVM’s feet, there are numerous bogus users these days. They just want to ensure they are not dealing with a scamming end user.
“You can not modify your name, email addr, phone number etc in their WHMCS by yourself”
I can find that in TOS, is that true?
“And their only accept that paypal account should be the same with your email addr.”
I can’t find that in TOS either, if it’s true I’m in trouble since my PayPal email and my account email there are different. As far as I understand they only want the same name, not the email.
I CANT find that in TOS …
Account details have to be accurate so you’ll get contacted by Aldryic within 48 – 72 hours to please let him know why your details don’t match.
Our TOS is quite reasonable, it protects us from clowns like the above and protects our clients from us making up rules on the spot.
Francisco
My email is different because I use that email for paypal only. Everything else matches
Then you really shouldn’t have issues :)
Francisco
So where’s the WHT thread?
Hi Fran
As i know your are canadian, Alertpay is too
So why you don’t add this gateway? I have trouble with paypal!
We actually have alertpay all prepped, we’ve just not linked it.
We’re trying to find out if there is enough demand for it for us to actually put it up.
Francisco
Well, I would definitely buy kvm from you, if alertpay would be available. 2 months till my current ends and then I would choose you.
Then I must say, If you had alertpay or Moneybookers, I wouldn’t have missed your last three offers. We people from bangladesh buy hosting from local providers only because we don’t have Paypal :(
Why are people not using credit cards instead of these services.
credit cards are just becoming popular in China recent years. And not all credit cards we applied can support payment in foreign currency. maybe in near future, cc will be more popular.
and due to security consideration, not all of us willing to pay with credit cards online. that’s why I choose paypal. and for domestic online shopping, I will use Alipay for over 80% scenarios.
please, Approve my account
Maybe Francisco has got some serves for his Birthday ;P
RMA’s more like it :3
Francisco
Hi Fran:
As you konw ,so many people in china use your service.
So why you don’t support Alipay? Many people in china have trouble with paypal.
Some one told me that you were supported alipay in past,if so,why canceled it later.
Andy;
We had a ton of trouble with the middle-man service we were using to offer Alipay services. While we’d like to offer it as an option, it’s simply too much aggravation for us to deal with at this time.
Hi Andy,
As pony said, we had it but it simply was too big of a problem. It was a complete disaster during our sales rounds and payments wouldn’t process. We didn’t have a direct alipay account so it’s quite possible that direct alipay is much much better, but it’s also quite hard for Canadian companies to get accounts there (need very deep pockets it seems).
Even during our non sales rounds and just monthly payments our middleman provider was dropping about 20% of all payments made to us, making quite a few of your countrymen think we were trying to scam them or not post their payments.
We do have alertpay ready to click into the system if it’s popular in China. I’m still getting the run around trying to find out if it’s wanted or not.
Francisco
Alertpay is NOT pop in China. Paypal is the ONLY well knowned payment method for international business (sale or buy) in China. Alipay (支付宝in Chinese, pronounced ‘Zhifu Bao’) is the most popular payment in China for charging ¥RMB-China Yuan. Only a few people have Paypal account and quite a few people have Dollars in their Paypal account. So, that’s why so many poeple buy US goods need others’ help, something like purchasing agent. And another big problem is that Most of Chinese know few English, they DO need someone know English and have Dollars in Paypal account to help them to buy sth. such as iPad, Infant formula, Books, etc. even VPS.
Alipay other than Alertpay is popular in CN. :)
Will the $3.95 Openvz VPS on stock?
It will be yes :)
is it possible that i cancel my current yearly vps plan(15usd/y one) and get the remainder as credit then buy a upgraded plan instead?
As a fact, so many people in china hate this TOS and buyvm think it “quite reasonable”
And buyvm call us “clowns like the above”…
http://www.hostloc.com/thread-82817-1-1.html
People that put “FUCK Jimmy Lu And Francisco ” in their signature on forums can indeed only be called clowns
well i hate jimmy lu too.lol
but francisco is fine to me.
Better watch it. LEA likes that company.
to drmike:you mean yardvps?
I think he was with them when it was PhotonVPS but yes. Yard was a split from them for the LEB market.
I hate yardvps.
You can find a thread from WHT named “yardvps is lame” then you would know why i hate them.lol
Our TOS has minimal legal jargin in it, if any, so things like google translator and the likes should have no problems converting it to Chinese for you and your countrymen to understand.
This very TOS has been in place since last YEAR so while some aren’t too pleased that they can’t share paypals and the likes, it’s a serious issue for us to deal with when we get a chargeback or are asked to refund a payment.
I do apologize if the TOS bit you but we’ve also had many attempts by people to bite us and if we weren’t insistent on keeping the details we do, we’d lose a lot more paypal cases to people without a just cause.
Francisco
Maybe you can put a TOS link on the homepage of BuyVM?
It is kinda hard to found out where it is.
I noticed that as well. Was buried within the FAQ.
In case anyone wants to read it:
http://buyvm.net/aup.php
That is the AUP not the TOS.
The TOS is on the website of Frantech which is a little confusing…
I’ll be copying the TOS over to the BuyVM site later today :)
You still have to click/view/accept the TOS when you’re ordering so I’m not sure what the huge issue is.
Francisco
@Francisco there is an issue.
The very few people that read TOS(<5% or even less) do it before considering a purchase from the company and not during the order process when an accept tos button is placed. Many even don't dare to click that link during ordering with the fear of getting diverted to some other page midway during ordering.
They are much more likely to ignore TOS during a buyVM purchase because you only get a 1 min window to purchase a vps there.
Wish you a happy birthday!
I think it’s good idea to put AUP/TOS to an easy accessible place on the BuyVM homepage. So that we have chance to read it before placing an order.
@veer: I am also one of the 95% you mentioned, while I purchase BuyVM. And the last reason you mentioned is also 100% correct to me. If all these stocks will gone within 30 second, how dare we spend sometime to read the TOS/AUP? :D
I guess that’s why Aldryic loved the account auditing process since the person had a week to read it :)
Francisco
Yes, I never found a TOS page on BuyVM.net.
Yikes, I also missed that the AUP and TOS were not the same thing. I read the AUP (it seemed fine), then on signup I clicked the box saying I had read the TOS (because I thought I had, when I apparently hadn’t). I guess I better find the TOS. I’m not planning to do anything questionable with my VPS but I generally try to be careful about stuff like this.
This is really a good news
I will buy later
Wow, today it’s my birthday too! Happy birthday Francisco! I wish you all the best!
Frankly speaking, the fraud check annoyed me at the beginning. But after that and till now, I am happy with the service from BuyVM.
BTW, all BuyVM / FranTech servers are in Canada, am I right? I issued a ticket about this, and reply directed my to a FAQ. But I cannot find info related to server location.
sorry for some typo.
Everything is located at the Coresite datacentre in San Jose, California :P
They are in San Jose now and formerly in Fremont, California, US.
Oh? But when I check on IP address allocated to my current VPS, it shows as a IP of Canada. That means even the server in US, can be allocated with an IP of Canada?
As you know, the ‘nationality’ of IP will influence some service. If the incoming stock will be with an US IP address, I will be happy to grab another lowend package. :)
If there is anything I misunderstand, please point it out. And also forgive me for it, I am not an expert in this area.
The ip’s were registered as Canada but the servers are located in usa.
They have a vpn for ppl who need use US ip.
will there be any instruction on their web site, or I should issue a support ticket for it?
I thought i get a email of that.
If my vps wasn’t suspended i can copy the iptable rule to you..
http://wiki.frantech.ca/index.php/VPN#US_VPN — looks like anything you send out using your internal LAN IP (172.16.) will get sent out from a “real” US IP.
@fanovpn: thanks a lot. I will try it now.
@fanovpn: it works! thanks a lot!
San Jose :)
We’re a Canadian owned company, though, eh?
Francisco
Sure, I understand. And thanks for providing solutions about US IP.
Happy Birthday!
I was just woke up by my alarm, it’s my local time AM 4:30, 30min before stocks available. It’s not easy for me to catch the first piece of cake, :P. And I am quite sure these stocks will soon be sold out.
Stock has gone..
eh, it seems the counting down page from Twitter fools me. It leads me to 1 hour later than actual stock online schedule.
I should calculate by myself. :(….
Can you change the additional bandwidth addon pay due of 15usd/yr plan from yearly to monthly?
It is annoying that i have to wait to next month or pay for 1 year of the additional bandwidth addon which i just need for one month.
I love to try the $5 KVM plan for one month, but unfortunately I couldn’t managed to pay a $3.5 invoice in time and I had to pay $5 late fee. Congrats Francisco & Aldryic..
Awesome work on getting some new stock in :)
I wonder how long it will last this time :P
Aldryic is probably already sitting there with his Gatorade ready to go. :)
Red bull!
GAYtorade is for babies
HAHAHA, kidding n_n
Gatorade? Pffff, the hell with that :P
Spiced Rum or JD :P
You are the man. I hope you will not do any mistake after drinking :P
Probably you guys gave server some JD so it can spin crazy!
Of course now we know why you seem to always be behind. :)
Do you allow torrents?
They allow legal torrent. Otherwise, if you get caught, you’re in trouble,
On a personal note, I would suggest keeping your max bandwidth down so not to overload the box. I max mine out at 150bk/sec in both directions.
Users are expected to handle DMCA’s that get sent to them, but we rarely get them so it’s obvious people are getting games/movies/etc and the content providers just don’t bother since we’re a Canadian company.
Personally, we don’t care so long as you’re reasonable and don’t try to push 50MB/sec on a torrent :)
Francisco
So 49M/sec is fine then?
‘Be considerate of your neighbours, the resources are shared’ :)
Complaints of legitimate abuse (read: not a rooted container) is pretty rare these days since we try to treat everyone as a family and ask everyone to always be considerate. We get lots of tickets/PM’s from people asking what would be OK cap wise for lots of things :)
Francisco
Out of stock?
We haven’t loaded up yet :)
Francisco
Figured i’d post an update about the storage plans:
Anthony has done a cleanup for failed terminations (the VM was deleted but the LVM was still gobbling some space) and we’ve recovered an extra 1.2TB. I’ll get with Aldryic to fill direct orders for those intersted in one.
Francisco
not available after 3:00 a.m. GT +8
out of stock in 20 seconds.
We’re loading up some more in a few :)
Francisco
What DC are you using, you mentioned Hurricane Electric on WHT. I then traced some of your IPs to Canada.
Hi Manan,
We were in HE but we left quite a few months ago.
We’re in Coresite @ 55 S. Market St. in San Jose :)
Francisco
Will all the VM’s be re-stocked or just the low-end ones?
We’re restocking everything as the guys get time to :)
Keep an eye out!
Francisco
Brrr.
(brings coat and some Gin) Waiting for the stock to be available.
Down for Maintenance
We are performing quick maintenance, please check back in a few minutes.
WTH. I just blinked and all 128 are gone.
But there is no kvm-storage vps :(
still no kvm-storage $7 only plan, was hoping to get another one :P
Ordered, just waiting for setup now :)
Anyone seen the source of the control panel login page? Made me giggle.
https://manage.buyvm.net/login.php
what’s it so funny?
Because it is SolusVM. Just the name is changed.
gosh, I heard Dolphin’s I.Q was better than some of the human, it proves here.
Not quite :)
I can assure you that while it’s using the solus front end skin it’s not solus.
I would cry if I had to pay those worthless coders $600/m in licensing. Hell, I was crying when we were paying them $350/m.
Francisco
The back end skin is Solus too?
Only the login page since I was too lazy to edit that :P
The backend has been given the majority of the coding/improvements since there was either too much broken crap that I saw no reason to replicate or I simply wrote something better from the ground up.
Dregond has some examples of the new frontend interface and it looks freakin’ hot as hell:
[15:56] http://xdat.us/PppsH.png <– KVM
[15:57] http://xdat.us/hbDEm.png <– OVZ 2
It's looking really awesome, especially the changes he has made since that revision.
He'll likely have me the code for the end of the month, at which point it'll take me a few days to get it in place.
Francisco
I have a openvz on node19, I see the back end Solus skin?
The skin isn’t replaced yet, we’re still making adjustments.
I’m not a very good designer (the frantech & buyvm sites should show that), i’m much more of a backend coder.
Francisco
Well the new one looks nice :) How long till you reckon you can push it?
Hmm.. code didn’t post :(
‘‘
Damn it. It’s now in the code of this page too, lol. Take a look at the source guys.
you just need to take mark up out of it.

Wow I made a mistake and lost my chance, you need to be fast.
have you read the source code as well the bit about triad and ponie’s has made me laugh. :)
Why there is no kvm stock?
Hey, Fran, I already have a box on the node that my new order was placed.
Is it possible to provision on different node?
Al said it’s not for migration, but I’m not asking migration here.
Just log a ticket and we’ll get it done for you :)
I have but Anthony said I have to cancel this new order.
[Ticket ID: 259828]
“Please do not make any further requests on this matter.”
Anthony, Frantech Support
I am sorry I asked..
KVM ?
out of stock..
i got up late.
More on the way, don’t lose faith master Roshi!
Francisco
buyvm.net is the BEST low budget provider out there. You guys rock! I’ve tried over 10 low-end providers and you guys are the most stable. I’ve been with them for almost a year and it’s been rock solid. Just a few bumps, like HE outage, other than that it’s been great. I’ve been with providers that have been down for days, BuyVM.net is definitely the best out there.
Thanks, we try :)
We’re not perfect but we’re working at that ;)
Francisco
Hey, Fran about Ticket ID: 259828
is this doable or just forget it, one way or the other.
You said nor problem, Anthony said impossible.
Fran, is the same hardware as the previous nodes? L5520s and so? Ty
(L|E)5520’s for all OVZ, L5420’s for KVM.
Francisco
What is the storage config, i.e. is it RAID? Thanks.
Everything is on RAID10’s.
KVM’s are on a 4 disk RAID 10 of 2TB Hitachi drives and the OVZ stuff is on 8 drives 1.5TB SATA 3 Hitachi’s :)
Francisco
lol.
All 20 of the 128s got lost in less than 30 seconds
Wanna bet all by the same person?
Unlikely, Aldryic doesn’t do account transfers much.
Hah, some other company parked buyvm.com and directed it to themselves. The sincerest form…
so I prefer to register .com before register .net
.com was actually registered when we got .net and we didn’t notice the drop.
Someone actually swiped it up, copied our site and pushed an affiliate call. They pulled up like $400 in affiliate cash pretty quick but a lot of it was fraud. In the end he had a run in with Aldyric and left in a tiff.
Francisco
Well, you can easily tell it’s not the real one as they actually have stock.
I just renewed my BuyVM VPS for another year, you guys will not be disappointed if you got a $15/year VPS. That is why I renewed :-)
Thanks :)
Francisco
:), I am quiet sure I will renew my VPS next year. My problem is how to get one more $15/yr package.
We’ll have plenty more ;)
Great news!
And it happen again I lost the stock for KVM’s, do you have plans for new ones (128mb year) Francisco, or do you have something left from cancellations?
We’ll see what we have when we load up stock for it :)
Francisco
bro,my account’s been marked as IAD.I’ve submitted accurate detains. Please help check it.
Then submit a ticket to billing with correct details :)
Francisco
Oh no! it’s already out of stock. Ive been waiting for buyvm to restock for months and its already out of stock :(
there are still stocks, be quick.
OPENVZ STOCK IS BACK UP!!
KVM IS ON THE WAY :)
Enjoy!
Francisco
Mine is still a problem.I’ve replied the ticket “#622062 – Invalid Account Details”.Yet no response is made.
Invoice paid for two OVZ $15, waiting for one more KVM $25.
me too.lol
I want storage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111
Me too!
KVM has been posted :)
Francisco
Thanks for the update, but again I missed it. Guess I’ll have to wait for the next release.
Bro,I submitted a ticket just now.#558200
$10 KVM is already out of stock :(
Can I upgrade the $5 kvm to the next plan later?
You can yes :)
Francisco
Me three :)
Heh, I also got the $5 KVM but in my case I wanted the next smaller one rather than the next bigger. Maybe I can downgrade later (or find a use for the extra capacity).
Would billing manager work in a few hours?
He will be back on shift in the morning ;)
Francisco
Thanks.Hope my account to be activated a.s.a.p..
Do you count the bandwidth usage between buyvm vps?
Only if you’re using your public addresses. If you use your 172 addresses the bandwidth is NOT counted.
All VM’s come with a private LAN IP :)
Francisco
I have 3 buyvm vps now:)
but their ip are all 209.xxx.xxx.xxx,can i get a 205.xxx.xxx.xxx one?
What if I use a domain of an IP on another system? Will it resolve to the internal IP or external IP?
I don’t get the question, or the question is stupid. A domain solves to the IP that you want…
I want to know if when the domain is hosted on the BuyVM network, will it resolve to the external IP or internal IP?
You can’t access the internal ip from public.
Invoice #27167 I’m trying to pay by paypal and it won’t let me? It goes to the invoice page and says “unpaid” but doesn’t have a “pay now” button and doesn’t give an address to send payment to. Also I don’t think the invoice amount is correct.
Hm, log a ticket to billing about that and we’ll check it out.
Francisco
Missing button was my fault, I got it straightened out, sorry. Still not sure about the amount. I paid what it said but I think I still owe you money.
Oh I think I see what happened with the invoice amount. It is monthly and the next one is due Nov 1, so it only charged me for half of October. Sorry for the confusion, I was trying to complete the process as fast as I could before the stock sold out ;-). Happy birthday!
It’s pro-rata billing.
Happy Birthday and happy weekend! I got two $15/yr this time. Expecting $25/yr KVM next time.
Tried to order one of the 2 last available 256 kvm and got flagged as possible fraud. Lets see if it works well.
Do you think you could consider a high-end storage plan where a person can physically buy a drive from you? That is, they sign up for a storage VPS with a 2TB or 3TB dedicated drive, they fill it with data, then they buy it from you and you pull it out of the server and ship it to them. This has two purposes: 1) let person get their backup data on their own premises in case something happens to the data center; 2) enable drive shipment as a download medium (like the old saying about the station wagon full of magtape).
Or perhaps they buy a drive and rent some slot in their server for use of it. If they want the drive shipped to them, they could request it.
Yeah, I know that some providers don’t want customer-supplied equipment plugged into leased servers (what if the customer thing blows up the server). Although if it’s a usb drive connected thru a hub, hopefully it’s pretty safe (at worst it blows up the hub). I remember Amazon offers something like this for EC2/S3 where they charge you a fixed fee (I think something like $80, ouch) to transfer to or from a drive that you ship them. I’m not sure of the details though.
heh I don’t. Hasn’t come up before. I burn data DVDs on occasion though. One of the back up servers has an external DVD burner attached.
I would have a couple of concerns. I know my servers are hot swappable capable although I usually bring them down anyway to exchange parts. I seriously doubt most folks, even after being told, would send me such a drive. Not sure what hardware other providers are using.
Standardization would also be a concern. If something is wrong with the drive, I would have it replace it with one of mine which would be different from what you would have. Not that big of an issue but I know some folks are diehards for certain brands.
There was another concern but I forget now.
Am I right that you cannot order additional bandwidth for the yearly plans?
Woooohooooo my servers are ready!
mine two are ready about half hour ago. :D
that’s one of reasons I like them.
Yay, mine is activated too! The orig email said it would take a few days, but they have already done it. (It said I could open a ticket if I was in a hurry, but I’m not in a hurry so I gave them a break).
Control panel is very slow, however; like the server is overloaded. Yow ;-).
Um, I’m assigned an IP address and control panel says my VPS is online, but I can’t ssh to it. Reboot doesn’t help. Mentioning it here of possible general interest. With luck it will clear up soon, otherwise I’ll open a support ticket.
Log a ticket, it’s possible it simply didn’t bind properly :)
Francisco
Thanks, Fran. Ticket #693423 is open.
Ticket answered, and box is now up and working. Problem was that it didn’t have an OS installed (for KVM products you have to install OS yourself). I wouldn’t have figured that out until the support tech explained it, since the control panel made it look like Debian 6 was running, and the activation email included a root password. Anyway, this was a pretty minor hurdle, I guess.
still waiting the setup server…
my 128vz is ready.
great.
but i’m not lucky enough to get a 128kvm~~
I got two $15 this time. Well done! Happy birthday!
had 128kvm ever restocked?
Some! :)
Francisco
My IP says its from canada.
Because they are a canadian company? LOL
If you’re wanting to access US content (read: use your VPS as a VPN for hulu/etc), you can check out:
http://wiki.frantech.ca/index.php/US_VPN#US_VPN
Francisco
I wonder if it’s possible to use IPv6 for that.
IPV6 isn’t geoIP’d very well so it’s pointless :)
All VM’s get a private LAN IP for free, just check in ifconfig or in stallion.
Francisco
been really wanting the 15/yr but i keep missing it.. i had the chance when the id verification was around.. but i did not know that you had to sign up prior.. now that you dont.. I cant even seem to get one.
We should have more at 1PM assuming Aldryic doesn’t want to skin me alive ;)
Francisco
1Pm what time zone? I am in PST. also can you run openvpn on these?
PDT ;)
OpenVPN & PPTP are supported by default.
Francisco
Not there at the moment (1:04pm pdt) and I’m hitting reload obsessively like I’m trying to snipe something on ebay ;-).
Yeah, I have been trying to get one and auto fresh and what not.. you owe us one Francisco! I could have been eating or studying.. :( It’s 150pm now. :/
Finally,
Get 256MB KVM
Is IPV6 supported by default?
Yes. You get 16 IPv6 IPs with every VPS.
Actually I got zero with my new VPSes.
If its a KVM vps you have to add the ipv6 addresses yourself.
How do you add them? Do you have to get them thru support first?
Open up a ticket, that was a fault of some code changes I made to stallion.
I screwed up the SQL query so it wasn’t pulling IP’s out <_<
Francisco
I’ll probably want to use ipv6 sooner or later, but I don’t need it right now, so I’ll give your support desk a break on the theory that the addresses will probably appear in Stallion once you’ve got the code sorted.
They won’t suddenly appear alas :)
If you want them you gotta request them. We have some users that insist on not having addresses so we can’t simply mass prop them to everyone.
Francisco
Mine came with IPv6 :) Appears to be working, when making some downloads from websites it connects using Ipv6, so yeh.
Heh, I opened a ticket and was told I already had addresses (they were buried in the management pages). Now gotta figure out how to use them.
You mean Fran’s new and dazzling control panel is lacking in
*SHOCK*
documentation?!?!?!?
:)
Is it possible to change the billing cycle from $5.95/mo to $50/yr after the purchase?
Log a ticket :)
You should put two cores on the 256mb kvms :)
Agree! And that is why I didn’t got one u_u
Almost one day waiting the fraud check thing and still no reply…
Aldryic has been up to his ears in things, sorry about that :(
We’ll get a reply for you ASAP.
Francisco
You pending my service saying account details are not fully accurate.
I reply my detail information in minutes and an additional ticket. Now it has been 24 hours and you do NOTHING.
What a really BAD service.
They can’t do anything without a ticket number. Might be helpful if you mention it.
And you do such further down. Never mind.
I’m seeing more KVM weirdness, maybe due to my own ignorance, but I notice:
1) When I hit reboot, poweroff, etc. in the control panel, I get a message indicating successful operation, but at least some of the time, the box keeps running. This may explain some of the installation probs I’ve had.
2) Installing Debian 6 worked ok, but I tried installing Centos 5 and got an error in the install process saying the cd-rom wasn’t there, even though I’d mounted it in the control panel. I ended up re-installing Debian.
3) I found a wiki page someplace on frantech.ca saying what Debian repositories to use (a lot of the ones in the built-in pulldown don’t work) but now I can’t find that page.
4) I don’t see how to install a custom image
5) Installation goes through what looks to me like an unsecured VNC connection. Logging into it means sending the password across the internet in the clear, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to turn it off. All I can think of is to change the VNC password thru the SSL control panel after every time I use the VNC. IMHO it would be better to use SSH port forwarding or something like that on the host side, and open an SSH port to the VNC, rather than using an unsecured port.
6) The VNC disconnects when I reboot the VPS. Maybe that’s normal and expected but it’s a bit inconvenient. Since the VNC is outside(?) the VPS container (it simulates a console keyboard and screen) I’d hoped to be able to stay connected to it across reboots and installs.
The hardest and most important part of running a hosting service is keeping the servers running week in and week out, and by all accounts BuyVM is fantastic at that. It seems to me though that while more superficial, the control console stuff and documentation have significant room for improvement and (in current shape) are a bit of a hurdle to new users. The newness of the Stallion system may be part of this issue, that will surely get better over time.
This is posted as sort of an experience report since I’ve never administered a KVM before, so as indicate earlier, there may be a lot of PEBKAC (i.e. user error on my part) going on. I’ll keep trying to figure the stuff out.
I wonder if it’s traditional for KVM to require self-installation while Xen in both places I’ve used it (Rackspace and AlienVPS) both let you auto-install from templates?
– The VNC will always disconnect since the actual process is getting killed.
– That’s odd about the cdrom, though the CentOS images included are only netinstalls I think so you should likely use the HTTP install method. I could be wrong but i’m assuming so!
– Reboots were changed from being a ‘sit and wait’ thing to a ‘pull the plug’ since libvirt is annoying. Alas, there are many times that we’d tell a VM to restart and libvirt simply couldn’t complete the process and sat there waiting. While the panel mentions a 2 minute wait this isn’t really the case.
Some of these quirks we ended up doing a quick/hotfix on in hopes of just resolving the libvirt wonkyness that we had. I’ve actually been in the middle of testing a newer build of libvirt to see if it addresses the bugs I had.

about virtio
1. virtio for ethernet and virtio for HD still flagged as experimental.
What can i expect when using virtio?
Will it crash/reboot sometime?
I use debian 6 and maybe freebsd in the future
2. Do we need to reinstall the OS after disabling/enabling virtio?
Thanks
1) VIRTIO for IDE is very stable and has no issues that i’ve seen. Networking can sometimes be a bit buggy and we’ve seen it randomly drop networking. The networking bug isn’t reprodusable by use but there are reports online about it. We always recommend using E1000.
2) Debian/Ubuntu have VIRTIO support by default in their kernels so you simply need to enable, hard reboot, and you’re set. CentOS requires you to re-initrd your kernel. Windows requires a song/dance to get it to work after the fact, but if you’re installing windows you’re recommended to ‘mount’ the ‘floppy disk’ as it contains Windows VIRTIO drivers that will enable during the whole installation process and make your life a hell of a lot easier.
*BSD doesn’t have VIRTIO drivers at all so you’ll have to stick to IDE + E1000. :(
Francisco
@Fransisco
Why don’t you create a forum?
With forum, all your answer will be documented better
The WIKI handles a lot of this :)
I feel the forums wouldn’t get that much attention and if we’re using it mostly for static content the WIKI would work better :)
Francisco
The wiki is a useful idea but it currently has little content and is very hard to find (maybe those are related). Can you put its url in your FAQ or some other visible place? I looked at it earlier but now I can’t find it.
The wiki needs more content for sure but if you got ideas for articles we’d love an email about it so we can write it up :)
Francisco
Perhaps public editing could be enabled for customers/fans to write up some content.
We’ve been considering allowing customer editing/adding :)
Francisco
One obvious source of ideas for articles is look thru old support tickets and see what questions keep coming up.
One about how to configure KVM hosts would be a good place to start :). Anyone got a favorite VNC client? TigerVNC seems pretty primitive.
Goodness knows I need yet another hobby.
Well, I’m still not sure about the exact weirdness but it seems to me that maybe the cdrom change and boot order change pulldowns don’t take effect til “power cycle” rather than just reboot. I tried enabling IDE VIRTIO and rebooting, and got dropped back to the Debian install cdrom, which was odd because 1) box was confiured to boot from hard drive first, and 2) centos (not debian) “cd” was in the “drive”. I reverted VIRTIO and “power cycled” after which I could reboot normally. So I think there are issues to work out with the boot system.
I’ll check that out then :)
A reboot should act the same way as a hard off but I guess it isn’t.
Either way, i’ll look into it in the morning.
Francisco
Thanks. I’m not at all sure they’re acting differently. They could both be random in the same way.
OK, I see you’ve been making changes to that page because a bunch of new cd-rom images seem to have appeared (unless I somehow didn’t notice them earlier). Somehow the control panel also reports I’m running Centos when I’m actually running Debian ;-). I made an unsuccessful attempt to install Centos last night and that may have confused it.
I did manage to switch the IDE driver to VirtIO, which didn’t work last time. I also switched from the Realtek ethernet to the Intel E1000, which works fine as far as I can tell. I’d expect the E1000 is supported by all recent kernels, so the advice in your KVM wiki page to download it from Intel’s site (involving clicking a ridiculous legal agreement involving no disassembly of what I’d hope is a FOSS driver) seems overbroad or maybe dated.
Oh yes, the KVM wiki page is pretty good, it just didn’t occur to me earlier to look at it, because the link to it in the signup email only mentioned it in the context of certain plans being unable to install some specific OS’s, and I figured Debian wasn’t a problem. So I ended up figuring out stuff myself that’s reasonably well documented in the wiki. I’d suggest adjusting the email slightly, i.e. to “new KVM users please read this wiki page”. :)
Noted :)
I’ve asked Aldryic to make the adjustment to the signup email ;)
Francisco
Centos isn’t working for me too. It stops at the http source mirror after downloading minstg2.img saying something like “the source tree is not compatible with your netinstall version … “. I have tried mirror.centos.org and mirrors.kernel.org and neither worked.
Can anyone point to a a working http source website and directory compatible with the centos-5-x86 iso listed on the kvm panel (kvm vps of stallion).
Also most of the panel changes(iso change, boot sequence, and even vnc password change etc) are requiring a hard reboot to take effect. May be this is normal.
-Veer
The reboot this is just how KVM is alas, it doesn’t support hot swapping of CD’s.
Make sure you’re on E1000 for your NIC and VIRTIO for your networking for CentOS :)
Mirrors.kernel.org JUST came online it seems so it’s quite possible it’ll be OK now.
We’re working on bringing our own mirror online.
Francisco
I believe qemu-kvm does support hot swapping ISOs via the system monitor, but maybe libvirt doesn’t?
If you’re concerned about the VNC password being able to be intercepted, keep in mind that all keystrokes in the session could be intercepted too. So you not only should change the VNC password after use, but also that of any account you logged in to over the console, or any accounts you created (e.g. root password set during OS installation over VNC console should be changed over SSH after setup is complete).
Yeah, I haven’t figured out what to do on this kvm (never had a “console” before) but normally I disable all login passwords and only log in with ssh public keys.
Would there be any new storage stock?
Have i missed it?
Not yet.
We only have 4.25TB available so i’m going to have to pick by hand who’s getting a plan who’s not. It sucks but yea :(
Francisco
What is the bandwidth limitation of storage plan for internal ip?
Internal IP’s have no bandwidth limit outside of the port speed :)
Francisco
I wonder why my account still not enabled.A LONG time elapsed.
Aldryic spent much of his day with his family. He returns to full time Tomorrow (Monday).
Francisco
OOOOps! Somewhat disappointed with your service.
What do you mean of “pick by hand”?
Do I need to submit a request for the storage plan by ticket? Or I just sit tight to see if there is any new stock available from time to time?
The word on IRC is that Francisco will post a thread on WHT with the offerings.
Actually it’ll likely be a lot worse than that :(
Since we have so few i’ll likely reserve the plans for current clients as well as people that contacted me earlier in the month. I was assuming we had more like 10TB spare, allowing us to post it publicly but at just 4TB there’s no reason to.
Francisco
Is there any capacity problem (routing or whatever) involved in supporting 1000’s of persistent (24/7) concurrent TCP connections on a single VPS, if the total bandwidth is just a few hundred bytes/second? The application is a remote monitoring system needing low bandwidth but low latency between the server and the clients. CPU use will also be fairly low, but it just occurred to me that connections might be an issue.
Depends on the OS :)
Linux might run into issues if you have conntrack enabled and you may run into performance issues if you have a firewall in place since it has to do syncookies for all of that. If you turn both of these off you should be able to handle it without much issues.
FreeBSD/OpenBSD can handle this connection rate without issue :)
Francisco
After paid 24 hours, still pending.
3 Tickets and got NO reply.
‘As a new client, your account is currently in `Pending` status. You are able to place orders for any service in stock; however, your order will be subject to screening by our Fraud protection modules, and may be held up to 48 hours before activation if any discepancies are noticed with your account. If you wish to expedite your order, please open a Support Ticket to the billing department with the title `Account Approval Request`.
If you place an order before your account is placed in Approved status, your account will be reviewed within 5-7 business days. If any discrepancies are found, the Billing Department will open a support ticket to your account requesting clarification or additional information.’
I’m not an OLD customer.
I have purchases at least 1 buyvm vps successfully.
The following is all ticket

I respone with the detail address, name, phone…
I have to open another ticket #163508
NO response at all.
Got a ticket ID and I’ll have Anthony check.
As I said, the guys needed a bit of personal time after the big rush yesterday :) All billing tickets will be addressed by Monday at the latest.
Francisco
Billing manager at work ??
@LHY
Don’t be so worry! It’s in weekend for BuyVM/Frantech at their company location, even now when I typing this comment. And normally most sales/billing dept of companies will off work during weekend.
I think you are during a fraud check process, due to you are a new customer. I also met this kind of situation before. Especially when your info is not so detailed.
Just be patient, and give some more time to them. I think you will be satisfied with their services.
I have buy at least 30+ vps in other company with the exactly same information and all of them setup in minutes.
Only at buyvm it shows “not fully details”.
I can understand BuyVM TOS, but 3 ticket with no response after 24 hours is not acceptable.
There isn’t much I can do if our billing staff want a day off :) While those other companies might be OK accepting any details, they must also be OK accepting the fact they’ll likely lose chargebacks. Our #1 goal here is to protect our company from any sort of fraud and our customers from any changes in price just because we have to fight 100 chargebacks a month like some companies likely do.
In the end, our goal isn’t to draw in people that jump from company to company trying to decide what they like. Our goal is long term customers that are willing to clear some extra checks if they give us mismatching details. We’ve had people that have scanned passports/driver ID’s/etc without even being asked to just to get things going quickly.
Be it you want your account setup or a refund, you’ll have to wait the same amount of time (tomorrow). Just let us know what you would like and we’ll go from there.
Thanks,
Francisco
I have already said “I can understand BuyVM TUP/TOS” if you read my post carefully.
I’m post here not to compare you to other company , I have never point out any other company’s name.
If you were a customer , open ticket and got no response, what do you think?
You can post a brief message on your WHCMS or just tweet it, explaning your stuff is off or busy. It won’t cost you lot of time.
Thanks.
The same situation with you.I ‘m quite a bit disappointed with BuyVM now.
@LHY
Take it easy and calm down. Take a relax after today’s work. I assume you are in the same timezone with me, :-)
Based on my understanding, due to the sales/billing dept working hours are 8*5, not 24*7. So sales/billing related tickets are considered as “may not be processed/responsed in weekend” by default. And BuyVM/Frantech local time is around 3AM Monday now. If you can understand that, you may ease your anger. Think globally, not only in technique, but also in culture and much more.
I will also feel anxious if my ticket/application are not approved/responded in a short time. But I also understand that everything has its own routine, break it will cause extra cost to you or others. As a customer, we will pay for it sooner or later.
LHY, give it a rest. Most companies (even with 24/7 tech ops) won’t deal with business and billing stuff except during business hours (i.e. daytime weekdays). My co-worker just signed up for some Rackspace cloud services and they wouldn’t activate til they talked to him on the phone even though I’m sure there were no discrepancies in his payment info. You have 30+ VPS with other companies and you can’t live without this one for another night? Like, whta happened to the other 30? It sounds suspicious even. I have VPS with one other company, it activated instantly and I was basically shocked. From the comments in the thread about that company I don’t know how viable it is even (I hope it doesn’t go deadpool but I wouldn’t make bets against it). I think the more stable and serious places are the ones that are more careful.
@paul:
I use vps as development server since 2008 and that does ‘t mean I should have 30 vps at the same time:-)
Delay is acceptable, but they should give a notification, just a tweet, is that too hard?
I’m also a customer of Rackspace, their cloud server usually deploy in 1 minutes. The first verify call cost less than 5 minutes.
But I know the difference between VP and Cloud server, not only the the price.
Point is that the Rackspace phone confirmation is only done during business hours. My co-worker had to wait til the next day for his. Rackspace also charges a heck of a lot more than BuyVM though the service is admittedly a bit different. I really admire the nerves of guys like Francisco who choose to enter this thankless, risky, low margin LEB hosting business, and I can see why they have to protect themselves as well as they can.
You in fact did get a notification, if the sign-up email you got was the same as mine. It said activation could take several days.
@paul:
Well,I like Buyvm and Francisco, but a business is a business. If there are more communications(ofc those reasonable ones) between provider and customer it would make the business run more smooth.Since a lot of ppl have problem with buyvm’s TOS it would be better to put them in a more noticeable place, and about the account approve thing it would be better to remind the customers the email address must be the same as paypal’s and the name, address must be real and detailed.
I’m also quite disappointed with their service, I know there are probably a lot of orders right now and they like to be sure there will be no future problems, but if you are going to make a offer that will attract a lot of attention don’t do it when your only (I guess) billing dept employee decides to take a day off! I hope they VPS is good because customer service is quite bad.
don’t worry, fransisco is a real good trusted guy
his staffs are very professional
he run his business unlike the other companies,
he like to be involved to the customers personally and make them as his friends
happy birthday frans…. :)
all hail for the pony
I trust Fran, but the other guys keep shutting him down in his organization.
He wants to help people, but the other people object to it, I think.
They just want billing things which is a section I don’t handle in the company anymore. Back in the day I used to allow people to put details like that and guess what? We ended up losing a LOT of paypal chargebacks over it.
We had people use 43 days of service then charge back and win just because our records weren’t correct. Happened lots with runescape users. So why should we take this hit? Not only are we out the cost of the plan (since we couldn’t sell it to someone else), but we would be out $15 – $35 from paypal due to their fee’s.
I’m not saying any of the users that have brought up billing delays in here are looking to scam us, but if we could pick all of the scammers/fraudsters out of our customer pool 100% of the time without being a pest to some of our ‘privacy concerned’ customers, then we’d get out of the VPS business and take on maxmind.
Francisco
They took a Sunday off, if you noticed I was on here directing people on what to handle :)
All clean orders got provisioned quickly and i’ve even assisted people on IRC with their KVM installs if they weren’t in the clear how to install their OS of choice. I’ve also been on here & IRC all weekend addressing any quirks users may have.
It’s noted that our billing staff work M-F 9 – 5. While Aldryic was around for a hunk of Saturday, Sunday he was gone fully. I apologize if you are in a rush, there isn’t a whole lot I can do when it comes to billing work :)
Francisco
I know, but necessary as it may be it is still kind of annoying.
I know it’s annoying and I apologize about that. Many users are able to get by without a single issue and get setup pretty quick (usually < 1 hour).
If it makes you feel better, once you're verified and all that, all new orders (if you choose to place any) to through pretty much instantly :)
Francisco
Vouch for this. Mine was setup in under 2 hours, if that.
I was not talking about billing.
Buyvm put my new order on the same node that I already have one, so I asked if they could move me to
different node (kind of dumb to have 2 on same node), politely, gently, and they said no.
I posted here asking same, Fran said
“Just log a ticket and we’ll get it done for you :)” this is a direct quote above.
so I asked again, they said “NO”, I thought ” we’ll get it done for you” means “get it done”, but
Fran said yes, the other guys said no, that’s why I said who’s working for whom?
I also have some boxes on the same node, but dont see any problem. That does not violate any policy or tos, right?
John just wanted them split for redundancy.
The guys were busy all weekend and couldn’t find the time to complete custom requests. I’ll ask Anthony to check on this ticket again John.
Francisco
Thanks Ticket ID: 259828.
I’m afraid of Anthony’s backlash. :)
The offer is over or still available ? :-( if it over when your wife or G/F birthday Francisco hehehe.. kidding
Visit http://doesbuyvmhavestock.com/ and keep refreshing…
I know that and it’s already (0) for the one i need.
I wish buyvm would be a little more communicative. I know stock is low and demand is high, but you have had several cases in the last few days where people plan their days around being online at one of the stock release times and…there’s no stock.
Also no announcement.
Also no apology.
I’ve seen lots of people on IRC saying “I got up at 5am in my timezone to be here for this” and it’s frankly a bit rude to not keep people up to date.
Sure, things get messed up or you don’t get stock reading in time or whatever – fine. How about a tweet or update somewhere that says “sorry, no 10pm release tonight check back 1pm tomorrow” or whatever? As soon as you know what’s going on, let us know :-)
I live in China as well, and can agree that Alipay is really the only popular online payments method here. Still, it’s exasperating for expatriates. It only works with the largest Chinese banks, so I have to use my ICBC account rather than my HSBC account to pay for things. I’m only able to add 1,000 RMB at a time to my Alipay account, so if I want to buy something expensive, it requires a large number of transactions in 1,000 RMB increments in order to load my account with funds. Additionally, it’s entirely in Chinese and my Chinese isn’t very good, so it requires a Chinese friend to use.
PayPal (“BeiBao”) has a presence here, but it’s not very popular and doesn’t work very well. Even with a Chinese friend helping me, I was never able to get it hooked up to my Chinese bank account because it required information that isn’t applicable to foreigners. Foreigners may be a niche scenario in China at large, but they’re probably a substantial percentage of folks who would be buying from you. I was able to pay using my US bank card, but since I live in China and get paid in RMB, I try to avoid spending dollars unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Finally, you may want to consider the risk of getting blocked by GFW. Why do people in China want to buy a VPS from you? If it’s to host content that is controversial or banned in China, entire nodes or even Class Cs could be banned. Of course, maybe they just want a cheap place to host a game server with good connectivity to the US, etc. Be careful what mainland Chinese users are hosting on your servers, it could cause big headaches.
Most Chinese user use a foreign because of every website in China must be registered to the authority.
It may ok for the companies, but if you just want to run your own blog then it is kinda annoying. The register thing take a lot of time and you need to fill many papers and forms:<
And about the GFW thing,it used to block website by ip or domains, but it has evolved that it can filter unencrypt package that contains certain keywords,so typically it won't simply a ip now.
*missed “block” in last sentence.
@TProphet
I’ve some other opinions.
1, Alipay has a site in English. http://global.alipay.com/ospay/home.html But service may different from Chinese version. The express pay may be a choice.
2, Beibao (Paypal Chinese version) is a different system from Paypal global. And it’s very not popular. :), not just not very popular in domestic China.
3, As you mentioned, besides GFW, we have many reasons to choose a foreign hosting solution, such as performance/price, stable, support. And even a site owned by a non-Chinese, will also has the risk to be banned by GFW. So just keep an eye on Chinese users is not enough, you should supervise all your clients, :D that’s why we need AUP and TOS. They should be the principle rules to judge issues happened between company and their customers, not the nationality of customer.
huh… Placed an order for OVZ-128M but got cancelled by buyvm immediately. Wierd… …
Sounds like it got marked for fraud :(
Francisco
huh… that’s wierd. Could you provide more details? The support ticket is still open and I didn’t even have the chance to make payment. Just typed in my personal information required to place the order, and then the order got cancelled. What kind of fraud is involved? Did my personal information got leaked?
I’m thinking more that maybe you forgot to change the country :)
What’s your ticket ID?
Francisco
ok, i see. from the email I got, it appears that my vpn server I was using while signing up for the service was the problem. I have just replied the ticket (#124005) after disabling my vpn server. does that solve the problem?
That will be the problem, VPN and proxy sign ups aren’t accepted.
Hello I am from China, my English is not very good. So I registered an account in buyvm hk-bbt@163.com and purchased a VPS, your paypal account payment enough money, and the temporary use of a friend’s paypal payment, and now that account does not match with any way to solve it. Now I can use my own paypal payment
Finally, I got one of the offer now :D
256MB with 10 ipv6
Should be 16 :)
Stock is going up based on our new designations:

? frans_said_stock :D
i miss the old bot frans…. :(
After some delay with the fraud check thing my vps is up and working :)
Performance looks good, dd tests are always over 100mb/s, network around 24MB/s down 3MB/s up (slowish upload) from US servers, ioping averages 0.7, very good for a budget provider.
I just wish I could have a US IP, my ping to canada is over 250ms and can never download more than 200kb/s, while the vps is good I might have to cancel it because of this…
The servers are in San Jose, California and I’ve been getting the ping times one would normally expect from that. I haven’t tried any big network transfers though.
I’m in Brazil, probably this is the problem. Folks in IRC told me that there is nothing I can do if I have a bad connection and a US IP address wouldn’t help. So yeah, I will probably have to cancel my vps…
Download test file for anyone who wants one.
http://arkells.ixape.com/100mb.test
Is that from a BuyVM VPS?
if yes, node, plan, etc?
Hi Nap,
A US IP can be granted if you’re having issues.
You can try pulling from buyvm.net as that has nlayer in the mix.
We’re getting global crossing soon which has some nice transit down the Brazil so that should help :)
Francisco
According to people at your IRC channel an US IP address won’t help, I will look further to see if it could do something (maybe my isp has problems traffic to canada, who knows).
And about global crossing that is great news for me! Any ETA for it? If doesn’t take too long I will definitively wait, these network problems are the only thing getting in the way for me to settle with you as my ‘definitive’ vps provider.
EGI reports sometime this week if all goes well :)
Francisco
Great! Drop a note on the announcements page once you are done, hope it improves my latency and bandwidth.
We’ve restocked for our 1PM release, enjoy!
Francisco
There was no KVM stock this all week long which is what this announcement is all about … right? Thanks for wasting our time.
I don’t even understand why you keep bothering us with your offers/ads and taking place in “Best Low End Providers” competition when you never have stock, except couple VPS every week. If you can’t host people VPS, let others do and don’t get in their way. You are not losing anything, are you?
LEB, I hope you reconsider “hosts with continues stock availability” rule in next “Best Low End Providers” competition, if I remember you proposed it last time which made BuyVM bring stock only to get in, what a cheat!
There was plenty on Saturday night – tons of it.
It all sold out in a single night and we’ve been awaiting some more equipment to come online so we can sell even more :)
We didn’t have stock during the last sale either, LEA felt it was unfair to single us out.
Francisco
But from your wiki (from your comment above) -> http://wiki.frantech.ca/index.php/Stock there will be no stock in saturday. Too much communication channels, I’m confuse which one to follow.
that’s why we wrote “in stone” when stock releases and at what time :)
All stock releases will happen within those windows, assuming there is stock.
Francisco
I think Circus is complaining that you released stock on Saturday when your wiki page said you wouldn’t. So he wasn’t watching for the release then, and missed out on it. That said, it looks like there’s now lots of OpenVZ available. The most popular setup is the 128M and today’s 1pm release took a couple hours to sell out of it. All the other sizes still have some available units. I guess KVM is still an issue. There has been a 2048M KVM available for a few days–maybe you could split it up?
The wiki came in on Tuesday actually to address the random stock release times we were having.
We honestly didn’t think all of our KVM stock was going to be sold in a single day, we figured it was going to last the whole week.
Francsico
i got one 256MB KVM last saturday
It’s actually sensible of them that they’re growing at a steady rate as opposed to taking hundreds/thousands of sign-ups in one night and not being able to cope with it.
For those interested, we’ve add a Ubuntu 11.10 (latest ubuntu) template to our BETA section of the reinstall page on OpenVZ.
Log an bugs/issues with us in ticket so we can look into them :)
Thanks!
Francisco
damn i missed the 128mb again… when is the next restock?
3 hours from now :)
Then after that there’s another restocking at 1PM GMT -7.
Francisco
RIP OFF.
•128MB memory
•15GB storage
•500GB/month data transfer
I got a better deal than this with 123systems.
$25/year.
i got it for $10 /year.
128MB RAM
5GB DISK
250GB/Month data transfer unmetered port speed.
appently Buyvm staff are stuck up **** heads.
and they oversell bandwidth :/ what would you do if all your clients used full quota awaiting reply.
Errrr, advertisement :D
Then we buy more? We monitor our graphs daily and, as you can see, no one complains about performance issues on our VM’s or our network. We have 2Gbit but are only using about 1.2Gbit at peak so why should we go buy a 10Gbit? to waste money?
You can say or feel what you like towards some of our staff, but day in, day out, we keep selling out and address any issues that may come up quickly.
Francisco
that kind of transparency from a host is probably unmatched as well. Just saying ;) #Pony power!
Yes , i see that i said it was costly , i thought it was openvz. can i have a test IP? to see ping.
Just to make it clear for myself, you have a 2Gbps dedicated connection on your switch?
We have 2Gbit to our router, then 2Gbit trunks back to our main switches :)
Francisco
Is that all?
Dedicated upwards or to the house pool? Got me curious.
fully dedicated.
We just don’t need more than that so I see no reason to fork the cash for it :)
Francisco
Got a link for the 123system order page?
Its OPENVZ. Pretty Fast I/O , only half a core :/ im going to try buyvm later. if they have 128’s in. as there KVM , more Bandwidth. more disk. – for $5 more.
Found it!
https://123systems.net/billing/cart.php?a=add&pid=149
Get it before stock runs out again!
123systems? pass.. some people were trading their “higher” spec vps from that provider to one of buyvm’s 128mb.
you really should read what their buyers have to say about their service
Have seen bad threads about them on WHT – also had shocking customer service from them myself. AVOID!
i have 128mb from buyvm and 123systems bought 3 mos. ago.
all i can say is that the buyvm one is more usable.
Seriously? You write out a complete bash before even trying them? I have had BuyVM for nearly a year now, great service, great people. I could not ask for a better host that actually cares about their customers.
So yea, next time before you run your fingers and rant about a company bad mouthing them about stuff you obviously know nothing about…DON’T. All you do is make yourself look bad.
Pony Power 4 Life!
I was on about Bandwidth as in transfer not port speed.
off topic, this is not 123Systems sales thread. DO a search on lowendbox or try visiting their website for more info
Stock has been reloaded for the 1PM round.
Enjoy!
Francisco
There’s only 1 2048MB KVM, am I the only one who reads this post subject?
Read back where I replied to your previous comment :)
The thread isn’t simply about KVM, if you read the first paragraph LEA mentions it’s for all of our plans too.
Anyways, for KVM we sold something like 60 – 70 units on Saturday and moved everything we had spare. We’ve ordered some extra equipment for some more KVM stuff but we don’t have a concrete date on delivery yet.
Francisco
Order Number: 3924985624
Ticket ID: 913294
Please……
Wowww… Less than just one minute after wrote in here my vps now ready :D thanks Frans
Next stock release is up :)
Francisco
I want another storage (the one advertised above) possibly on another node (I am on storage01 currently), any ETA?
We aren’t getting anymore storage arrays, sorry :(
At least not any time soon. They’re a fun venture but they gobble up power that we could make better cash on.
Francisco
Software RAID5 provides great amount of disk space but is never a good idea for serious hosting :)
node 41 :(
Contact support, sure they’ll do something :)
The hell happened there?
for sure log a ticket and we’ll see, it’s quite possible a disk is blown out.
Francisco
Don’t you use 8 x 1.5 TB HDDs in Hardware RAID10 — Can one blown disk affect the performance so badly?
Or maybe it is just Software RAID with 4 disks?
there’s 8 in there, but adaptec cards turn off caching when they’re either rebuilding in a broken state alas. Couple that with actual user work loads and it can get bumpy when things aren’t in tip/top shape.
We have nodes that give 150 – 200MB/sec almost always, and even a couple that are closer to 300MB/sec though not too many of those.
Francisco
How often do you (BuyVM) experience problems with blown disks, I assume the many VPS’s will put a heavy stress on each disk even with 8 x RAID10 setup?
It isn’t often, but it does happen :) Most failures will happen within the first 4 – 6 months and since these 1.5TB drives are still new I usually check that first whenever there’s any quirks.
We keep some drives on hand but the bigger issue is when arcconf (the adaptec mangement software) doesn’t want to re-enable the cache without a reboot to the whole box. It has been quite some time since it has forced us to reboot to fix.
The newest 6805 adaptecs are a little picky about drivers as well. I regret getting them and wish I had gone for the 5805’s, but they weren’t in stock at the time :(
Francisco
waaa. another restock and missed it again.. lol
Fran when will you have another one of those 128s OVZ?
Monday :)
We don’t do restocks on the weekend anymore as we documented on our wiki.
Francisco
So KVM-storage is not happening soon, when is it going to rain KVMs (except storage plans)?
We got a few storage Asim :)
There is a few people ahead of you in line for them but if they bow out I can set you up with one, lemme know what interests you.
As for KVM, do the same, lemme know! I’ll follow you on twitter and you can DM me.
Francisco
So when are you getting global crossing eh Francisco? You said this week, I’m waiting for it :D
It isn’t our call yet since we don’t have the direct transit. We simply get word down from egi about when things are happening so we’ll see what happens :) They said it should be soon, they were just waiting on the LOA.
For those interested/using our smaller KVM plans, we’re bringing in the ability to enable ‘burst’ RAM. Here’s the break down:
– User clicks ‘enable burst RAM’ on their KVM VM
– The users RAM is boosted to 512MB for a period of one hour
– The user can now install OSes (mostly centos) that require more RAM than they have
– After 1 hour, if the user hasn’t disabled their burst, their KVM is forced down and the burst is removed
Temp ram would be granted for 1 hour per 24 hours, more than enough time to install centos/scientific/etc
We should have this available later in the week.
Francisco
Cool feature :)
Should also include an email-alert feature before the vps is turned off to take the extra burst ram
You are the best!
Hello, just want to ask if this feature is for new customer only?
Because I cannot find the temporary memory button anywhere on the SolusVM panel.
It is only for KVM not for OpenVZ. if you have missed that.
I don’t have KVM myself to check it though.
Mine is a KVM-128MB Yearly.
I want to boost my RAM because I want to install CentOS.
We haven’t integrated it yet, sorry about that :)
Like all of our features, it will be available for everyone, new and old :)
Francisco
No needa sorry, we know you got numerous to do. :)
I’m working quickly to try to get it out before stock next week :)
Francisco
Do you have plan on only smaller sized storage package like $3~4 for 100GB rather than %7 for 250GB?
I would love one but 250GB seems too large for me.
Or will there be yearly storage plan like the KVM plans?
We considered smaller plans but at this time we’re not going to.
Francisco
[19:54] got a deal for some 1TB drives it looks like
[19:54] for some KVM love
[19:55] sometime next week we should have:
[19:55] 40 x 128
[19:55] 40 x 256
[19:55] 20 x 512
[19:55] 10 x 1G
[19:55] the 1GB’s will be merged into 2GB’s on a per request basis
Francisco
Now where did I put that delta lied trigger….
*searches*
Serves you right when you retire navi >:(
Francisco
Wow ill be waiting for this. Ill move all my enscloud vmware to your kvm plans :)
Great :)
We’ll spread it some to give everyone a chance. We’ll see about getting at least another 50% online, we’re just working on some of the equipment.
Thanks!
Francisco
Nice ;-)
Do you know if your KVM host supplies virtio-rng and if the debian-6 template’s kernel uses it? There’s probably a way to figure that out from the guest side, but I’m not sure how. Thanks.
Our .18 kernels don’t support it but we’re doing tests on an RHEL 6.1 based KVM setup :)
If the tests go well we’ll have our newer nodes with it and -rng will be provided by default when the guest supports it (pretty much anything running 2.6.32)
Francisco
Hi Francisco,
Please can you take a look at ticket 820292 and 337481.
Thanks :)
From the looks of it, KVM will be rolling the coming Monday. Stock will be what I mentioned + 50% to all plans since we got some more nodes ready :)
All of the newer nodes will be based on RHEL 6.1 with older nodes getting upgraded to 6.1 at a later time (probably late December since we don’t really want to reboot people if we don’t need to).
Francisco
Is there some way of knowing when? Your site isn’t very helpful cause there’s no way to see current stock on the different plans
http://doesbuyvmhavestock.com is always the way of choice :)
You can also get in on the mailing lists:
OpenVZ: http://eepurl.com/daaLk
KVM: http://eepurl.com/eiriU
Francisco
Hi Francisco,
Please can you take at ticket 735728.
thanks
I got 2.5TB left on our storage array!
For those interested in a storage plan, be sure to log a ticket ASAP with sales and we’ll get you setup.
We only have the amount I listed above left so it’s first come first serve.
Francisco
1.3 TB left :)
Francisco
1 x 500G
1 x 250G
left!
Francisco
Gone! And especially if they are RAIDed, you are not charging enough, given the crazy increase in HDD cost these days. :)
RAID 6 :)
It’s just software raid6 since the whole thing was a one off for now :)
Francisco
Fran, what kind of sw is it ok to run on a storage plan? In particular is it ok to run a db replication server? Thanks.
That’s fine :)
Francisco
Dont rely on this provider, bought one year and supended me after three months of use without reason, no refund made, they kept all the money. Support ignores me.
Got a ticket ID for this claimed support ignoring you?
Francisco
…96 pixel text…
Ticket id: 190682
Karl;
This ticket is under another client’s name. Is your name in our system incorrect, or is Karl just a nickname?
Karl is a nickname, i’m spanish
Aaah, here’s the problem. The initiated partial refund was rejected by PayPal as too much time had passed since initial payment. My apologies for not spotting that before, a refund of 12,16$ will be posted to your PayPal account during business hours tomorrow.
“supended me after three months of use without reason” “Support ignores me”
This, sir, is simply a lie. We have a lengthy ticket in which we explained you were terminated for a service (ipscanner) that was deemed malicious. You initially stated that you knew the risks of this service (http://i.imgur.com/NQ3MD.png , http://i.imgur.com/St8fx.png), then claimed that you did not intentionally launch this ipscanner (http://i.imgur.com/IniNZ.png).
Typically, for minor first violations we simply issue a warning. However; due to the multiple, conflicting stories given, combined with the service in question having a malicious purpose (we do not allow “network security scanning” of remote hosts), we opted to simply prorate a refund and close your account. Again, my apologies that this refund was not handled properly; that will be rectified during business hours tomorrow.
In that ticket the only you do was repeating a lot of times that the service was suspended because of something copied from Tos and you wasnt listening to me, since I repeated all the time (since the ticket was opened on 10/12/2011 up to today) that you were keeping all the money and you didn’t even check it.
In the ticket I explained I only did scanning a few days (long before the service was suspended) and it wasn’t the real reason for service suspension but they used it to justify the suspension, the real reason was using too much resources and it was a mistake on mine, no intentional, and i apologized for that, nobody heard me.
Yes sir, there are only so many ways I can say `no` before I run out of unique combinations for the letters. I do wish you had mentioned the prior lack of refund in the ticket, however, we could have straightened out this mess for you days ago.
Sure. The best support policy for a company is saying no repeated times without listening to customers, denying any debate and avoiding to solve any problem. I was complaning all the time you keep all they money, did it tell you noting?
I have just counted the times this guy repeated the sentence “This topic is not up for debate. Your service was terminated for intentional violation of our Terms of Service. You admitted intentional use of the software.”. Five times, followed always by another sentence copies from ToS, I replied why I didn’t agree but he never replied to me. He just was copying the same sentences again and closing the ticked repeated times.
Yes, as I mentioned prior, there’s only so many times you can say `no` before you run out of unique combinations for the letters. Aside from when it became obvious that you were simply going to argue nonstop, I previously posted 5 other replies attempting to explain this situation to you.
mysql> SELECT tbltickets.tid AS ticket, COUNT(tblticketreplies.id) AS replies FROM tbltickets, tblticketreplies WHERE tbltickets.id = tblticketreplies.tid AND tbltickets.tid = ‘190682’;
+——–+———+
| ticket | replies |
+——–+———+
| 190682 | 26 |
+——–+———+
26 total replies to the ticket in question, not counting your initial post, so you can hardly claim you were ignored. To top it off, -you- actually opened this ticket apologizing for the service in question before we had finished writing the AUP Violation notice. That tells me pretty clearly you were very well aware that the process was running.
Now, as I stated earlier, your pro-rated refund will be processed this morning once we’re in business hours, so I do believe we’re done here.
You’re joking, right? I know with my company, those are my servers and if you want to be on them, you will follow my rules. if you have a problem with that, well there are other companies out there. I’m not going to allow someone to come along and break my rules as well as the rules of the datacenter that I had to agree to. To do so puts me and my other clients at risk and could cost me tens of thousands of dollars if I were to be locked out by the datacenter and had to relocate to other datacenter. Especially since we do not have a mover here in Charlotte certified to move servers.
No, it’s not open to discussion.
Otherwise known as “My server = My rules” policy. Very well know policy since the early days of the Internet.
I think buyvm has handled that issue well. Sure they made a mistake with the refund, but after your complain they managed to refund you. So if I were you I would be glad that I received the refund and would go on.
“Aside from when it became obvious that you were simply going to argue nonstop, I previously posted 5 other replies attempting to explain this situation to you.”
Sorry, my definition of “to explain” doesn’t include copying the same reply and paste it again. 26 worthless replies in any case.
“To top it off, -you- actually opened this ticket apologizing for the service in question before we had finished writing the AUP Violation notice. That tells me pretty clearly you were very well aware that the process was running.”
Aha, then that’s the problem you had, you simply thought I was lying. Sorry, it’s not the case. Lasts days of August and first days of September I was testing the software. It was only a few days. For this purpose I set the process as a daemon, that autostart with the system. When I discovered that scanning wasn’t allowed I stopped the daemon and removed scanning permission to that daemon from database, although I was scanning with permission from the remote addresses. I tried to disable system autostart on 4th September. I didn’t use the VPS again since I needed it for another future project. On 12 October 2012 I received an email saying that my service was suspended, no previous warnings. Their reason: banned process ipscanner. I thought I had stopped it but it looks that autostart was still enabled and the system had restart because of some reason. A only did scanning a few days and as I said the real reasons is excessive use of resources, I knew that problems but I had never known that the daemon was still running. I can assure it didn’t do any scanning since 4th September, I have logs in my database. What do you want me to do? I opened a ticket and apologized because it was my mistake, but as I stated here I had little, if not nothing, understanding, and you didn’t even read my claims you didn’t refund nothing.
@Christian: I’m not happy I have to use an external website to get my support issues solved. A month talking with them to clarify nothing, a hour here I get a refund.
PD: No refunded yet.
Karl, to be technical about it, when your account was closed you became an ex-customer rather than a customer. BuyVM has a business to run with actual customers to answer to, so I can understand the notion that they have better things to do than get into debates with ex-customers.
“No refunded yet.” – http://i.imgur.com/Ihz5r.png
Like I said. Within business hours.
Wanted to resolve the refund situation sooner? Like I said, I wish you had mentioned it in ticket, then I wouldn’t have to waste my time explaining to you, yet again, that your violation of our AUP resulted in termination. You do not get to buy a vowel or use a lifeline.
Like you said, I copy/pasted a reply 5 times. 26 total ticket replies. If they were worthless you to, then you simply chose not to read.
To be perfectly honest, yes, I do believe that you were/are lying. You’ve provided multiple stories (see my prior screenshots), and basically contradicted yourself the whole way through here. I know five-year-olds that can keep a story straight with better accuracy.
In any case, your refund has been completed, and after both the hassle via ticket then the mess here, there will be no second chances. Simply move on to another provider since you clearly don’t like how we handle business.
Was previously refunded anyway. At least an attempt was made with Paypal balking at it. Best attempt and all that.
@Aldryic you guys accept unverified Paypal? I have to admit that even I don’t do that.
I didn’t contradicted myself at any point, I think you have never understood the whole story because you have never paid attention to it. You have just said yet another time I didn’t mention I wasn’t refunded, what makes more evident you didn’t pay attention to me, you can read the ticket again and you will see I were saying all the time I didn’t have the money and I wasn’t refunded. This topic is ended for me. I did received the refund (I didn’t get the paypal email in my inbox as usual but I have just seen in the paypal website you did refund). I wish we hadn’t had this awful experience, I am usually a quiet customer but this time we I had that problem.
I’m glad you’re not one of my customers. I actually feel sorry for the folks at BuyVM for having to deal with you.
Attempted refund -> http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/buyvm-kvm-birthday-sale-25year-128mb-in-san-jose/#comment-52449
How is the global crossing thing going eh Francisco? I can live with 200ms ping but not with 2Mbps bandwidth to my home, I would really like to avoid changing my VPS provider again because of that…
Monday 6AM is what I heard back from EGI just now :)
Francisco
And the phishing continues…. I notice your evil twin buyvm.com has a global ssh listener on its ip address, so “ssh foo.bar.services.buyvm.com” prompts for a password and does who knows what with it. :-P
OMG! There is no way to report that? I guess we can do sth
The domain’s owner has already… been removed from US Jurisdiction. Considering that the primary reason so many CN clients sign up with us is to dodge the GFW, I doubt that China would actually do anything to him.
Could always file a complaint with ICANT and have them ignore it. :)
Oh you :P
Indeed, I am -STRONGLY- considering revising that policy. That’d be a pretty major change, though, so I need Fran’s and Karen’s approval on that as well.
If you do stop taking unverified paypal, what will you do for current clients who use unverfied paypal accounts?
That’s what Aldryic is going to check :) If it accounts for decent amount of our current payments then that’s a no go.
Francisco
That’s what I’m currently researching, dmm. It’s very strongly looking like that won’t be happening (discontinuation of unverified payments, that is). But you can definitely be sure I will be writing tighter auditing scripts to monitor payment.
Make sure you publish this guys name so your clients can all blame him for making you do such. :)
Is ‘verification’ the thing where you have to provide PayPal full access to your bank account, to get a gold star? I like your service, but I really don’t trust PayPal enough to give them the keys to my bank account, just to be allowed to send BuyVM credit card payments.
I know it’s a question of numbers and risks, and I’m probably weird and in the minority in this respect, but I sure hope it doesn’t become a requirement of your service because it’s not something I’d consider doing at all.
There’s a paypal verification where they validate your postal mail address, by sending you a piece of paper with a confirmation code that you have to enter into their web site, and there’s another kind where you have to give them access to your bank account. I did the mailing address confirmation but I’ll never give them access to my bank account. It looked to me though that buyvm was set up to handle credit card payments without paypal. I’d use that instead of paypal if necessary.
I believe you can verify against a credit card as well.
I wonder what happen with my both VPS with BuyVM.
1. The one located at 256 (node42), it having problem with the data, and sometimes it went Offline even after fresh reinstall. It seems like the VPS is autorebuild/being restored to the old seting. When I reinstalled it at 30 October, 2011, it saya it have been up for 5 days. So, any modification to the VPS will be unused.
2 The one located at 256 (node28), today is suddenly Offline. So I have to reboot it from the SolusVM. After boot, the memory usage is 0.
I know it’s cheap, but I never have this kind of problem with another provider :(
** Edited **
They are performing maintenance at the node my VPS located.
Sorry for the post
We’ve been rotating out some nodes to get older ones off ext3 and moved to ext4 :) EXT3 performance degrades quite badly over time due to the amount of files we have on our nodes (most nodes have ~15,000,000 files due to some HUGE shopping carts some users use). We’ve already rotated out quite a few nodes but a few of the nodes we finished today were missing a few patches so we had to perform a reboot to handle the network dropping from them.
The maintenance was completed within 20 minutes, pretty good for 4 nodes to be spun down fully, adjusted, powered on and spun back up again :)
Thanks and I apologize about the bumpy ride today,
Francisco
Hmmm, that’s the reason. Now my VPS’s have changed from nodes
heh Did you blow them out? We do when we do stuff like this because while it’s supposed to be clean, our datacenter is very dusty. :)
Coresite is extremely picky about keeping their DC clean. :)
They don’t even allow you to open boxes in the DC space for fear of it clogging the AC units :P

11PM GMT-8 is in approx 50min but I think you guys already updated the stock inventory :S
My order has just been flagged as Invalid Account Details, when all the details are right, whats happening?
Open a ticket with billing :)
Francisco
They opened a ticket with me, I gave them all the same details again and a few hours later was activated without a phone call or any other contact.
Other than the above unexplained problem the VPS is very responsive and Windows 2003 on a 256meg KVM runs very well so far.
Aah, you must be the rural UK gentleman whose address does not have a street/building number. The staff member that initially processed your order is not overly familiar with rural-type addresses; he is instructed to flag any suspicious-looking address for me to review. I confirmed your address and activated your order, trusting that receiving Order Accepted emails would make the situation clear. I apologize for any confusion that this has caused.
Yep thats me, I have always had instant activation for the last 15 years, so not used to any delay. All is well now though.
Heh, aye, instant setup ended when I took over Billing and found that we had almost 100k in unpaid invoices from people skipping on payments, fraudulent orders, etc… a literal nightmare that it took me almost 6 months to go through and clean. Hence our current strict policies and manual confirmation for orders. Thank you for your patience ^_^
For those interested, global crossing is now a bandwidth provider for us :)
Please report back any pings/speed issues you might be seeing with it.
Thanks!
Francisco
Damn, I think I missed this again. 2x in a row… everytime you load them up, I miss ’em…Loading up those 15/y anytime soon?
More at 4AM, so in 5 1/2 hours? :)
Francisco
Shame my probider doesn’t have these guys on their side. Still get a lag on SSH connections :( Thinking of getting a machine to bounce from :)
Any idea if adding global crossing may have resulted in worse routes for some customers? I’ve noticed recently (not sure when it started but it’s been at least a week) that I now get really crazy routes (CA to TX to IL to UT back to CA) and about 4x the ping time that I used to. It used to be in the 25-30 msec range iirc, but is now around 100-120 msec.
Opened ticket #449050 about this.
More stock at 11PM GMT -8? Gonna have to wait until 7AM to get one… Been wanting for a 128MB KVM for ages.
(7AM in UK)
We only do releases at 4AM and 1PM GMT -8 :)
Francisco
Ah, I think yesterday you posted wrong (typo) time “More comes at 11PM then again tomorrow.”
Right,
A: It is currently 11:06:53 PM on November 07, 2011.
And no stock added
Still no KVM… any idea when there will be more available?
Tomorrow for KVM, sorry about that.
We got delayed due to miss-matching screws for the caddies of all things. Matt’s taking what he needs in with him to the DC today, though, so we’ll have the following for tomororw:
KVM:
– 20 x 128MB
– 20 x 256MB
– 10 x 512MB
– 5 x 1GB
Francisco
Thanks for your reply. Any chance you can reserve one for me? Busy day tommorow :(
Reserve one? Do you want him to cook breakfast for you, too? Wait in line like the rest of us …
No need to be a smartass. Did I upset you, sir?
I happen to be working 2 jobs at the moment, so probably won’t have internet access when the stock is released. So I can’t exactly ‘wait in line’.
Sorry mate, but reservations have always been a no-go. There’s simply too much demand, and if we had to devote our attention to keeping a reservation/waiting list in proper order we’d never have time to do the actual sales.
Fair enough, thanks anyway.
Wow thats actually just 18gb RAM
Do you put all fo them on a single node?
The nodes have 24G RAM and 8 cores.
Normally each node sits around 4 – 5 loads, the exception being one node that’s on lower performing CPU’s (being replaced this week).
Francisco
We have some storage plans, log your tickets post-haste with sales, all spots are first-come-first-serve!
Francisco
Hi dear Fran =)
Any update for KVM? I saw, there was happened several updates for OpenVZ but not for KVM plans ;)
KVM has been reposted :)
Francisco
There is KVM right now (1300 Pacific Time). Probably not for long.
Yeah, Thanks i got it ;)
Oh fran I desired pay invoice by AlertPay but seems that you didn’t activate this gateway!
So what i do?
for those who want KVM plan, be quick!
Yes, only a handful left
Any chance we soon get a 128 OpenVZ restock (missed the last one in a matter of hours)? Nothing personal against 128KVMs, I just like CentOs :)
Anthony said he can give you some extra RAM for a bit if you like to get cent to install? CentOS 5 needs 256, RHEL6 needs 512.
Francisco
I’d rather wait for another OVZ run (besides I’m not that much in a hurry). Thanks anyway :)
We got some stock reloaded, including some dribs/drabs of KVM :)
Francisco
my node is down again..
*very* limited stock is posted :)
This is pretty much dribs/drabs of fraud orders and the likes, we are not doing a full restock this year, most likely won’t until Summer or so due to harddrive prices being unreasonable.
Francisco
yayyyyy!!! (not that I want one, but its always nice to see you keeping the services top notch and the stocks rolling in)
Well i have learnt a few things from Buyvm.
one being you can’t have CENTOS on a 128mb kvm machine :)!
Francisco – How many nodes do you have now? all in same location? all same CPU? may you give me some more information about the company i have purchased from :)! Loving the 400MB/s I/O
– We’re at 70 nodes
– Everything is in San Jose, California for now. We have people asking us to open a 2nd location but we’re just not sure yet or where
– All OpenVZ servers use (E|L)5520’s and all of our KVM nodes use L5420’s. The L5420’s are a little older but they still work well. At some point we’ll be repleacing all of our KVM nodes with E3’s/sandy bridge CPU’s
– CentOS on a 128MB KVM isn’t possible, at least for the installer. Anthony has been granting RAM bumps for people once in a while ;)
Francisco
So if the big one hits?….
The datacenter is built under California earthquake laws and likely has been improved since then for that very reason :)
Market Street Tower has a lot of govt. contracts/setups in there so they take their job very seriously when it comes to any sort of maintenance/possible issues.
Francisco
Coresite Miami. Work and pleasure all in one.
OMG… Just missed. Any more coming soon?
We’re holding a public trial/beta to see how vswap performs on our setup.

Francisco,
How could i contact you via email please? am a customer in your company.

For anyone who is interested, here is my review on their 128MB KVM VPS:
http://www.96mb.com/96mb-low-end-vps-review-part-xxxvi-buyvm-kvm-series-part-1-of-2/
Disk I/O is pretty good, but network speed is slow and the overall benchmark is not all that impressive though. However for 25USD per year, we can’t really complain much :)
I’ll review another 512MB KVM VPS soon, hopefully with better results than this one.
As I tweeted:
– You’re using RTL8139
– The CPU’s are L5420’s so some benchmarks, namely threading performance, isn’t as amazing as it could be :( Newer CPU’s (Xeon 55xx+, 34xx, etc) all have better virtualization instruction sets so they get proper speeds. In the unixbench tests you’ll notice that the excell tests are not terrible, but by no means as good as it should be, that’s entirely due to the older cpu’s.
With that being said, KVM is slated to get better gear in the new year. We did the same thing with OpenVZ to really feel out how much interest there is. We’ll probably go with some E3’s unless the E5’s are worth it :)
Francisco
I gave some thought about picking up one of these with my seasonal money as I have a number of projects coming up shortly but after Aldryic’s recent bigoted remark towards me in LET, I think I’ll pass.
Aldryic, go make light of some handycap folks. Appears that’s acceptable to you.
Sorry drmike, but professional standards prevents me from a proper response. You are, however, more than welcome to either ignore me (like you said you would ten minutes ago), contact me via PM to work out your issues, or simply cease attempting to troll. Thank you.
Is there a reason that anonymizer.com, webhostlist and LEB is not reachable via BuyVM? (Using it as a proxy/tunnel)
its loading for me. i’m connect via vpn server from buyvm.
as a proof, i saw a guy on anonymizer that looks like the guy on quickweb ;D
I can’t reach anonymizer.com from my BuyVM VPS with OpenVZ. Do you mind posting a traceroute jay?
I don’t seem able to reach anonymizer from anywhere. I tried from home isp and 3 different vps’s in different locations. traceroute takes several hops in cogentco or above.net network and then fails.
Traceroutes might act up but I had no issues accessing any of these personally when I was testing.
If you’re having an issue just log a ticket.
Be aware, though, that many providers use anycast setups now with cloudflare and such so traceroutes are backasswards.
Francisco
BuyVM has been so elusive for me. I’ve been trying to buy a VM from them for the past one year but was never lucky. :)
Ah… I’m still waiting for the next batch =).
Figured i’d give an update to people curious about what we’ve been busy with recently.
– We opened a public trial to help with the testing of a new kernel. Performance has been top notch and, fingers crossed, all stability issues with it have been figured out. We expect to have a production node running this sometime tomorrow to pave way for the rest.
– All of our KVM nodes are being upgraded to E3 1230’s at no additional cost to current customers. Take this as a christmas present of sorts from us :)
– We expect to have stock on all of our plans, as well as 260 or so 128MB’s, in a week or two. I’ll submit information to LEA and hopefully he’ll have time/interest to post us.
Thanks for the continued interest.
Francisco
Awesome…looking forward to get KVM from BuyVM :)
“All of our KVM nodes are being upgraded to E3 1230′s at no additional cost to current customers”
Do we need to reinstall the OS because of this upgrade?
No reinstall will be necessary, and no client data will be effected by the upgrade. Aside from the downtime from when we change the hardware, the only thing you’ll notice is the increase afterwards :P
I wonder how many customers know what an E3 1320 is.
Do you mean 1230? There is no 1320 :-P…. should have went with the 1270’s for a few hundred more… we love em :)
Regards,
Chris
@Chris: 100 EUR more for almost no increase in performance… I wonder if it’s worth it!
It is worth is as I have worked with both. Overall your getting a more stable CPU that can handle a higher load if it got to that point. Instead of worrying about load spikes, you would be perfectly fine.
As another update on what’s going on around our parts:
– Production trials of our new kernel are in place against nodes: 02, 14, 22
– Results have been extremely positive with huge IO performance increases
– All around responsiveness is improved heavily and new monitoring systems are being developed as we speak to allow us to better throttle abusive users before they cause issues for others
– A new alerts system is being developed into stallion that will give people full logs of actions our systems have taken against their VM with emails sent:
— Examples of alerts that users will be sent emails + logs for:
— Very high loads in their VM
— Very high IOP/s usage on their VM
— Very high MB/sec usage on their VM (to the disk)
— Running a process that we’ve deemed to be a violation (we’ll have a full check list on the AUP/TOS before this goes in place
— Single processes gobbling a ton of CPU
The alerts system is mostly done and is just in testing, we hope to have it in use and keeping everything in order by the start of January.
More stock is on the way for January as well. We’re currently not restocking so we can get everything rolled with the new kernel + adjustments.
Merry ponymas to all, and to all a good thrust!
Francisco
The “alerts for the owner” is a cool feature. I love that on LINODE because it helps me to fix issues before they become a pain for other users on the same node.
Waiting to see these features roll out
The new kernel gives us a lot more control over a VM so we don’t have to resort to suspending over heavy resource use most of the time, we can simply throttle the VM down to acceptable levels until they reply to the logged ticket. We may even make it automatically open a ticket with us so they can talk to us about it.
Either way, it’s looking good and i’m really excited about it.
Francisco
Pretty awesome results! Damn!
Congratulations for those results :D
@littleguy – We’re using debian 6 based nodes w/ a 2.6.32 based kernel so vswap is enabled, mostly.
vswap itself has some serious design flaws that we don’t like that much, namely in how vswap is shown on the HN. With that being said, though, we do use the proper RAM account of vswap so the RAM you paid for is the RAM you get (it access RES as your usage, not VIRT like normal OpenVZ).
Until vswap addresses the account quirks, or we simply make modifications to our node monitoring scripts, we’re simply allocating people 2x their RAM to give them ‘burstable RAM’.
Francisco
‘access’ should be ‘account’ :P
I know there’s no stock, but any chance of getting an upgrade to 256/512 OpenVZ?
Shouldn’t be an issue :)

System Benchmarks Index Score 493.0
GeekBench: http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/552996
Concise summary, in comparison to the 128 MB KVM results by user 96MB:
UnixBench scores are similar (OpenVZ 493, KVM ~530). KVM may have a slightly higher overall score, but OpenVZ actually has higher indices in more than half the tests. OpenVZ only lost clearly in “Pipe-based Context Switching”, with a mere 27.4.
GeekBench scores: OpenVZ 2982 to 2210 KVM. Similar scores for both integer and float sections. OpenVZ got 4173, 2830 in memory, stream performance respectively. KVM got ~1550, ~1400.
testThanks :)
You should see a nice boost from the new KVM stuff when it’s online (everything is getting upgraded to E3’s).
Your geekbench scores will be in the 4k – 5k range.

Just a small side question.. do you have any plans to restock your frantech cPanel reseller plans?
I’ll know sometime this week if that’s going to happen or not.
I’m wanting to at least sell out the cpanel box we got with buyshared & the FT plans.
I’ll need to resize the FT reseller plans as their resources are skimy compared to BuyShared.
Which plan are you interested in?
Francisco
Does “BuyShared” equals to the shared hosting plans on frantech.ca?
The 5,95$ one
http://buyshared.net :)
Francisco
Welp, I should check my links before I post things.
I guess I gotta fix that webpage at some point.
Pretty much, take the resources & prices of BuyVM, and put it on a cpanel box.
Any decision made?
AM I being put on the blacklist or something.. honestly asking :(
Man, if you have questions write them http://buyvm.net/contactus.php This isn’t an official contact way.
For Francisco — Happy birthday!
I have waited for cheapest Windows(KVM-128MB)VPS. But when ordering there is «This product will not run Windows». What does this mean, ordering Windows VPS Shopping Cart does only talk over BuyVM-KVM-128MB «Windows 2003» may not properly work, we can order Windows VPS and setup Windows to try KVM-128MB?
To write questions, I unfortunately haven’t found any EMail address.
You can run MSDOS on this plan :)
Greetings! Very helpful advice in this particular post!
It’s the little changes that make the greatest changes.
Thanks a lot for sharing!
Hello, i feel that i saw you visited my web site so i
got here to return the desire?.I am trying to to find things to enhance my web site!I suppose its ok to make use of
some of your concepts!!
