Thanks to abjr pointing out this XPLHost special where you can get a low end OpenVZ VPS for $6.36/month (after the 20% off discount). Here is the spec:

- 7.5GB storage
- 150GB data transfer
- CentOS + HyperVM + LxAdmin
Servers seem to be with The Planet in Dallas. 150GB makes it a small file/media serving box on the cheap.

It’s a semi-managed VPS. So there is less freedom, but also less effort to setup up.

@Ryan — thanks for sharing the 15% off discount although the plan would be outside the cut-off I am using for VPS here.
Looks like the servers are managed although I think for those who are playing around low end Linux/*nix boxes, they’ll probably prefer to have their boxes unmanaged.
