This is our 5,000th post on LowEndBox!
That was way back in 2008. In that year:
- Breaking Bad premiered.
- Eli Manning lead the New York Giants over Tom Brady’s New England Patriots in Superbowl XLII
- The first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Iron Man) was released
- The first iPhone model was a year old, was the only one you could buy until July, when the 3G came out.
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (the fourth movie) premieres.
And here’s what our first LowEnd offer looked like:
Saw this special deal at WHT on echoServers, where you can get 3 month free when you prepay for 1 year. With their low end VPS starting at $5.99/month, you basically pay for 9 months ($53.91) and then get 12 months service — worked out to be $4.50/month.
Not bad for a 64MB (guaranteed)/128MB (burstable) OpenVZ VPS, however as the monthly transfer limit is only 10GB the usage will be quite limited. Probably can only host a few unpopular sites like this one :)
Wow…for $6/month you could get a 64MB VPS with 10GB bandwidth. And of course, we were right about hosting sites on it. A year later, we’d publish the famous article Yes, You Can Run 18 Static Sites on a 64MB Link-1 VPS.
Our first comment (of 128,848!) was on our fourth post, “FreeXen.com – 64MB Xen VPS for Free Too Good To Be True?” That post was in Feburary 2008 but by October the host had deadpooled.
We’ve come a long way in 15 years. THANK YOU for your continued patronage!
