Daniel from Server Complete emailed me a week ago (yes I am that behind on my emails) that they are willing to offer LowEndBox.com readers exclusive offers on their 256MB VPS, which is not listed on their website. This offer is in fact the same as what has been posted before, but as that has expired, this offer for LowEndBox readers will stay. You have to use this link to order. This is what you would get for $5/month:
- 256MB guaranteed memory
- 10GB storage
- 75GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ
Quite a few goodies that come with the VPS plan:
- Free hosted DNS
- Free unlimited 5 minute port monitors
- Quick and easy rdns management
- Web based administration panel
You can choose from either Dallas TX or Atlanta GA.
Server Complete is just about to be two years old so they are not new to virtual server hosting. Nor are they a “budget provider”, as the plans on their website actually starts at $30/month.
Terminal based administration console

Decent deal. Pity they don’t allow anything IRC related.
Hi Don,
Yeah, we unfortunately prohibit IRC due to the increased risk of DDoS related attacks.

That’s a hectic drop in price from their cheapest package. I wonder if they have some older hardware that they’ve decided to repurpose, eg they’ve rolled out new server hardware and thought that they’d host these specials on the older machines instead of just ditching them.
Hi David,
These plans are really used as “filler” packages and are not getting dumped on older hardware… Over time, the natural flow of customers leaves some empty slots on various hardware… Since we do not oversell our hardware these slots may not be large enough for a full 512MB package so we would use one of these to bring the node back to its capacity and maximum profit. Since we are not filling entire nodes with these packages and thus requiring a great deal of overselling to make a profit, we can offer a great price for them.

Hi Daniel,
Will this package be available in your west coast data center in the near future?
Thanks,
Martin
@Daniel
That makes a lot of business sense, actually.
Hi Martin,
West coast right now is only servicing Windows VPS powered by Xen and we do not have any immediate plans to expand this to Linux OpenVZ.

Hey there, any idea whats the CPU limit on this VPS package ?
Cheers !
Hi Matt,
We operate on a “limited share” model meaning that we do allow you to burst with regards to CPU (unlike RAM), however, we restrict each container to roughly the equivalent of 2 CPU cores which is distributed across 4 cores in total.
We do perform very heavy monitoring of each VPS’s CPU usage and the usage on the node as a whole. If you reach over a certain threshold for a certain amount of time, our system will automatically alert you of such. If this usage continues and becomes an issue for other users on the hardware node it will alert us and allow us the opportunity to temporarily suspend the VPS and send a message to you.
Thanks,
Daniel
SC is a very solid host not typical of the standard low end provider.
I saw pretty good service and recommendation about SC on WHT.
Thanks for the clarification Daniel. That sounds like a reasonable way of distributing CPU resources amongst VPS-s in a box.
I was about to get the vps but then i read the terms of servie. If you miss a payment you have to pay $200 to get it back online. That’s over three years of the monthly payments. If they overcharge you and don’t think they did you will have to pay them $200 if you chose to pursue it further. If you fail to end your service seven days before the next payment you’ll have to pay the next month and a $200 dollar administration charge. And so on and so on. It seemes like if you fuck up at all you will have to pay $200. And that’s quite alot for a five dollar a month service and not something i want to risk if i want a cheap service.
Hello Andreas,
With regards to our TOS —
The $200 administrative fee in the even of deactivation due to nonpayment has never been enforced in our two years in business. I will admit that our TOS is more catered to dedicated servers rather than VPS and I will bring that up in our next staff meeting and speak to our lawyer to potentially amend the TOS. The way our billing works is that invoices are generated 10 days in advanced. Once the invoice is generated you are notified via email of such and you may login and pay the invoice. You are sent a reminder at 5 days, 2 days, and the day the invoice is due. Once the invoice becomes overdue we send an notice on the first, second, and third days. Additionally on the third day a 48 hour suspension notice is sent. After the 48 hours your VPS would be automatically suspended unless an arrangement was made with us in advanced. After the VPS is suspended you have 5 days to make payment before the data is destroyed. We provide you with ample time totaling over 2.5 weeks to make your payment. If you require an extension of payment then we do not have a problem providing such permitted it does not become a regular occurrence.
With regards to cancellations — We do require a minimum of 7 days notice submitted via the cancellation form in our client management system. If the invoice becomes seriously delinquent then we do reserve the right to send it to collections at which time an administrative fee would be assessed to cover the costs to collect. I can tell you that it does not make much since to try and collect on a $5 account and it is better to write it off and terminate the account. If the delinquency was for an item such as a dedicated server then we would exercise our right to collect on the debt.
The overpayment fee also has never been enforced in our two years… Any overpayments are automatically placed as account credit and applied to your next invoice, alternatively we can issue a refund to you for the overpayment — all which is required is a ticket to Billing to have this settled.
Please understand that our purpose is not to nickel and dime you every chance you can get… We are extremely generous and understanding and will bend over backwards to help you in whatever way we can. Our TOS is in place to protect us as well as other customers and deter fraudulent activities from our network. Some of our policies may sound extreme, especially the spam/bulk email policy, but if you work with us then we are very easy to deal with and do not charge ‘administrative fees’.

Thank you for such a fast and extensive answer. I did not think that you were trying scam all potential customers. I understand that you are just trying to cover your backs for worst case scenarios. But i still find the TOS quite unsettling and extreme. But I’ve also understood that you are a host focusing on a more high end market and the fact that you show this much care for even the smallest customers is really great.
Hi Andreas,
In our eyes, everyone is a customer regardless if they pay $5/month or $80/month
If there is anything I can do or clarify for you, feel free to send me an email and I will be happy to assist :)

Hi Daniel, I am thinking to take this offer. Can u please tell me, what is the port speed for this package. I mean the server’s internet connection speed, like 10mbps, 100mbps or more?
Thanks
Hi there,
All hardware nodes are connected to the switch at 100Mbps Full-Duplex. This is then offered on a fair share basis to all VPS on the hardware node.
Thanks,
Daniel
Hi, thanks for your reply, I tried to order using the link shows at top of this page. But got some error. Please see the image here:

Is this offer still valid?
Thanks
Hello,
Per the error, there was a problem with the phone number provided on the order form. Please resubmit the form and verify the phone number you inputted was valid.
If you have further problems, please contact us via email sales [@] servercomplete [.] com — LowEndBox is not a support medium and we are better able to assist you via ticket.
Thanks,
Daniel
So this special is not available in your Chicago location?
Hi Mina,
We had not yet launched Chicago when this promo was originally posted. If you would prefer Chicago then it should be an option on the order form. If it is not then just place it in the comments on the order form.
We have ample availability in all facilities and are still offering this promotion!
-Daniel
After looking around for a while, and after realizing no reliable hosts would consider sponsoring an open source project :), I’ve decided to try out Server Complete with this special.
We’ll see how it goes :)
Thanks for your purchase :)
You should have received your welcome email a few minutes ago.

Loving SC so far! :)
Well I signed up today after emailing a sales enquiry that was answered within minutes! VPS was setup within 30minutes of order and is nice and resposive. Love the service so far and happy to have a VPS in a quality data center!
“This offer is in fact the same as what has been posted before, but as that has expired, this offer for LowEndBox readers will stay.”
Doesn’t look to be the case anywhere, I’m guessing because of http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/servercomplete-5-128mb-openvz-vps-exclusive-offer/
Oh well. :)
