SuperBowl LIX is coming on February 9, 2025.  It will feature the Detroit Lions representing the NFC, who will defeat whatever team from the AFC is destined to lose.

I mean…ok, maybe that’s the fan in me speaking, though the Lions’ odds to make the SuperBowl have improved greatly during the season, as they’re presenting sporting a 7-1 record (best in the NFC).

But whoever goes – c’mon, it’ll be the Lions, you know it – ahem, whoever goes, advertising will be massive.  And massively expensive!  A single 30-second commercial is expected to cost north of $7 million dollars.  For 30 seconds!  Once!

It’s a questionable spend, because you’re reaching such a huge audience.  The advertisers who benefit from that kind of exposures are big brands that appeal to everyone – cars, beer, cell phones, etc. – that are sold nationwide.  You’re not going to see Marge’s Donut Den from Wyoming, Michigan advertising because they’re too local (though they do have the best donuts on the planet).  Likewise, you won’t see ads for cool Raspberry Pi hats because that market is too niche.

If you’re a web hosting provider in our community, you don’t have $7m to drop on a 30-second ad, and even if you did, 99.999999% of the viewers are not interested in your cheap VPS offers.
