BurstNetworks - AUD$25 Dedicated Server in Australia

Updated July 2011 — BurstNetworks.com.au is now redirected to DedicatedServers.net.au after the acquisition.

Updated May 2010: as far as I know this offer is no longer available. $25 dedicated should probably stay as a myth.

BurstNetworks Via this offer on WHT.au. I have not covered cheap dedicated servers for a while as I don’t really have much use of them. And face it — anything more than $7/month is just too much for impulse buy :) However I am pretty sure someone would prefer a cheap dedicated than a cheap virtual server, and BurstNetworks has one such offer at the moment. For AUD$25/month (USD$22.63) you can have the following server all for yourself.

  • Celeron
  • 1GB memory
  • 80GB hard drive
  • 50GB/month data transfer
  • 2 IP addresses

The server will be in Brisbane, Australia. No idea what kind of Celeron it is, but hopefully be newer than my Celeron 300A overclocked to 450MHz. You won’t find the offer on their website and you have to use this ordering link.

btw, if you guys need higher-bandwidth servers in australia – jumba.com.au has virtuozzo vm’s w/512mb ram and 100gb bandwidth for 9 bucks a month

still looking for a nice unmetered place for my shoutcast relay, can’t seem to find any that can do local traffic :(

  2. How much traffic does your shoutcast relay use? A bit of search reveals that this company “AustDomain” has “unlimited monthly transfer” for their virtual servers.

Now it is subjected to “fair use policy” — whatever that means.

  3. I think that the Celeron they are offering is just a regular Celeron 2.4Ghz based on the upgrades they are offering for it., It’s quite an old piece of hardware though, The D347 is a bit better ;)

I signed up and had no emails, 3 days later I emailed them asking why they haven’t set it up after their “We have a 24-48 hour setup time on all of our servers”.

    Today I received a response:

I am sorry to inform you that we no longer have any celeron servers
    for lease.

    Gah!

I Signed up to burstnetworks for a $150 a month VPS with 500GB bandwidth, explained in detail what I would be using it for and needed decent bandwidth throughput, they told me it would be good for what I need.. slow as crap could only get about 300kbps if that didn’t even use it, wouldn’t refund my money, I don’t usually write bad things, but burstnetworks wouldn’t refund a cent, I would have been happy with a refund of $100 out of the $150, and I didn’t even freaking use the server.. purchased / tested – complained, got told to sod off.

Austdomains also paid them $50 for a VPS and they never setup the server and also took my money…

i.e don’t use burstnetworks or austdomains.

Jermey, – are you in Australia? If you are, drop acronyms like TIO and ACCC. :) You’ll see your refund running back to you.

Yeah I am, but you shouldn’t have to bother with going through all that.

I’m sure there are people that have never had an issue with Burstnetworks.com.au but from my experience it just shows what kind of company they run.

Take your money and don’t care after that. hopefully others will find my experience and stay away from them and i’m sure it will cost them more then $150 in business in the long run :-)
